Job A- same as what I have been doing (which I'm tired of), 6K increase plus good benefits
Job B- in field where I want to be, a 10K decrease (other benefits unknown), good friend will be my direct supervisor Me: single mom with debt |
| If you can swing it financially, I would go with job b. That's what I did 5 years ago, and it's been really good for me. |
| B |
| A |
+1 Single moms with debt need to be responsible, not chase a dream for less money and bennies. Smh |
Kids with single parents need that parent to be a psychological bedrock and if job 2 makes said parent's professional life more fulfilling/stable/solid/happy, that means said parent can put more energy into her child. kids with two parents can better afford to have one of the parents less satisfied/miserable at work. |

OP you need to not give dollar amounts but %.
if you make 100k right now, 90 to do something you like a lot more is worth it compared to 106k doing something you dislike. the calculus changes if the starting point is 40-75k. |
Agree with above. Leaning towards B because of the "do what you love philosophy'" which can pay off over the longer term. Still, I would need to know the actual figure to give my final rec. |
|
I wouldn't work for a good friend, so I would choose option A.
|
Agreed! Plus, $16k is a big difference. |
:
This. |
+1 also |
| A. Get your personal fulfillment somewhere other than work. You gave debt. Get that taken care of. |
Could change your friendship, probably will. |
| What about other factors, commute, hours, etc. |
