| Usually it's because something is produced in the same facility where wheat is used for something else. Is it that hard to get a fresh chicken and roast it yourself if you are concerned about contaminants? |

New poster here...my wife has Celiac so I'm constantly looking for gluten free food. I was a bit suprised to notice that the Whole Foods brand 365 doesn't lable any of their products as gluten free. As a previous poster mentioned, I think they are protecting themselves from any cross contamination concerns. It was surprising though, as some "lower end" house brands, like Safeway, often do label their stuff as gluten free, when applicable.
To their credit, Whole Foods does a nice job with those green labels on the shelves that denote gluten free products. |
Roasting a chicken isn't that hard, but it takes time (and planning). Most people don't have a rotisserie at home, so making a rotisserie chicken is not easy. And buying a rotisserie chicken for dinner is very easy and quick. |
What planning? For a small chicken you season it and put it in the oven for about 45 minutes to an hour. The oven does all the work. You can do this on a Sunday afternoon and eat it all week. |
No. You just roast it in the oven. It is easier than using a crock pot. |

Okay, then. But don't be surprised that the supermarket doesn't guarantee that it's safe for whatever food intolerances you have. I only eat GF and plan my meals pretty carefully--impulse trips to the grocery store are not part of my routine unless I know that whatever I'm picking up is 100 percent safe. |
Bully for you. That's awesome. Personally meal planning and cooking is not my strong suit, but I still need to feed my celiac kid. So I'm gety grateful to stores that make that easier for me. And admit I've had a similar WTF reaction when reading labels and a food containins gluten that really doesn't need to. |
+100. I've noticed that the "flavored" rotisserie chickens at our local supermarket all contain wheat -- BBQ, Lemon Pepper, etc -- but the "Original" do not. Sounds like Whole Foods must use a flavoring on all their chickens. Annoying! |
