When charting cycles and using condoms...

I didn't abstain. Condoms worked just fine. Used charting to avoid pregnancy for a few years.

Used charting, no condoms. No baby for 5 years until we stopped charting.

Wait, what?

The best sex is during the fertile window, IME. Why would you abstain if you're using a reliable birth control method?

I'm confused. What are you trying to do or prevent?

Two out of the five babies born around when our DS was born were due to only using condoms during what they thought were their fertile days, so I don't recommend that.

I doubt that. Maybe that's what they are telling you.

Preventing pregnancy.

I think it would depend on how strongly you must prevent pregnancy, as well as how old you are/how fertile you are and whether you tend to "fool around" before putting the condom on. So there's a lot to consider. The issue is that you KNOW you are fertile, yet you are using a form of contraception that has a lowish (when compared to others) reliability rating. Sure, condoms work pretty well, especially between adults who actually use them correctly. But, they still break and aren't perfect.

As an aside, why would you use condoms when you know you are infertile? (unless maybe you're not in a committed monogamous relationship?) But that's the benefit of learning your signs -- no need to use anything. If you're just going to use a condom all the time, why bother charting? Just curious.

Are you all in 5th grade or never had sex ed?

My husband and I have used condoms for 8 years as our sole method of bc, and we have not had any oops babies. I have never charted. I am way too lazy for that.

Condoms are so gross. If you're married or in a committed relationship why not use a different form of BC?

Not the OP, but my body does not cooperate with extra hormones, whether they be in pill or other format. My husband's body did not cooperate when he tried to get a vasectomy. Short of getting my tubes tied (which I'm not really keen to do right now), we have settled on charting and condoms. Works for us, and we're happy!

If you are regular try Cycle Beads. http://www.cyclebeads.com/ About the same as using a chart but gives you a visual. I used it along with a calendar. Good for birth control and for trying to have children.

Do you have kids? I hope you aren't telling them this. Do you really want them having sex without a condom?

Thanks for sharing! I just sent this link to a friend who is trying to get pregnant and was asking me about charting.
