| My DS is playing soccer for the first time this fall. I don't know anything about soccer except that he needs cleats and shin guards. Can anyone recommend decent cleats for a 9 yr old that won't break the bank? Also, there seem to be shin guards and shin guards inside soccer socks. Which one should I buy? |
|
Just go to a sporting goods store and try on some cleats.
I'd get the shin guards without the socks, bc he might have to wear special colored socks for games. |
| Modells usually has a package deal. Buy seperate sock and shin guards. Socks go over shin guard. |
| Just get the cheapest cleats at Dick's/Sports Authority/Modell's. They should be around $25. |

Sports Authority has Adidas for $25 minus what ever coupon you have (found a 15% off online) and decent shin guards/socks. Just got some last week. They also had some $10 soccer balls. They may have more for larger sizes, but it was our only option. The Target ones were really crappy looking.

+1. Your kid will outgrow them after one season. Ask your friends with older kids if they have any hand me downs. |

We've bought DD's cleats at Sports Authority and Zappos. Zappos has the better selection and comparable prices.
Her uniform has always come with socks, although last year she didn't like them and we bought replacements in the same color from Zappos. Go with the separate shin guards. |

10:02 back again.
Our league also has cleat swap days before the season starts. Worth asking the coach if your league does one. When DD has outgrown her cleats, I send an email to her team asking if anyone can use them. They are doing me a favor by getting the clutter out of my house. Worn twice a week for 8-16 weeks, they are barely used before she outgrows them. |
| Thanks everyone. I asked my neighbor if the rec league had any type of swap and she said no. We are going to stop at the consignment store first and then head out to Sports Authority to see what they have. I know the kids get t-shirts but no socks. |
| OP back again. I got some cheap cleats but it seems that the shin guards for little kids are the ones that also go around their ankle. Does anyone know of any brand shin guard for a tiny 9 yr old that is just a shin guard? |

We just use something like this. You can put the inserts in different socks if necessary.

| Stoddert soccer cleat exchange. http://www.stoddert.com/home/559612.html |
| Thanks. The exchange sounds great but we don't live in DC. |
Neither do I, but I wanted out with 4 pairs of cleats. I don't think you need to be a DC resident. |
| oops, ... walked out ... |
