Frankly, I'm really sick and tired of this forum being hijacked by pet haters and I think we need a love on thread.
I have two cats and a dog. They are insane and they make me life endlessly interesting. I could do without the early morning kitty wake up call. It starts at 5:30 am. My two little furry vultures perch and stare until I open one sleepy eye. If I try to pretend I'm still sleeping, because, really, 5:30am is oh-too-damn-early, they up their game. They come creeping up and sniffing my face and ears with their tickling whiskers. If I STILL don't get up to feed them, I get the conversation. Meows. Mrows. Grumble mews. I have not slept past 5:30am in three years. That said, after they are fed, and after I take the dog for a walk and make myself a cup of coffee and watch the morning news...they both creep on up for some purry lap time and I almost forget how irritating they can be. In short, I love my crazy, early morning girls. Can't imagine what I'd do without them. Tell me about your crazy but lovable pets. |
| I have two dogs, one aloof, the other wants to always be the center of attention. If we give the aloof one any sort of attention: say her name in conversation, call her, pet her, give her a treat, whatever, the CoA one wiggles herself in between you and the aloof one. If you don't then acknowledge her, she will "talk" to you with grunts and soft barks. If that doesn't work she will sit up and extend her arms like she would like to be picked up. This dog is 85 pounds, so it's not going to happen. She is so adorable and is the best dog I've ever had. I know she loves me and that is a really cool feeling. |

Consider yourself lucky that you get the "tickling whiskers"....Lol...
I get licked by that harsh "sandpaper tongue"...YIKES!! |

Thanks for starting this thread. Feels much better now!!
I have 2 cats who start waking me up at 3:30 am. One gently comes and rubs her wet nose against mine, then bites my hand and then licks with her tongue. Another one watches this. Then at 5:30 am, the other one starts jumping across the bed to make noise. I finally wake up at 5:45 am to feed them.

Hmm - isn't there some sort of automatic food dispenser that you could program for their early-morning peckishness? Or... feed them later the day before? I don't have cats, so perhaps this is not feasible. |
I am 9:47. My cats don't wake me up only because they are hungry. They are bored sleeping through the night and need cuddling. Even when they have overeaten late in the night, the 3:30 and 5:45 ritual continues.

I love my cat. We got her from the local county animal shelter about 2 years ago when she was a year old.
She plays "fetch" with random objects--her preferred object changes every few weeks. Over the winter, she would get my kids gloves and bring them to us, wanting us to throw them. Then this spring it was wads of crumpled up paper (not even sure where she would find them, but she'd bring them to us!) Right now, it's hair elastics. That one is kind of fun, because since they are elastic you can stretch them back and fling them across the room. Whatever the object is, you throw it, and she'll get it and bring it back to you. It's hysterical. |
Cute! I have never heard of a cat doing that. We have a retriever who doesn't know the meaning of the word. |

^^^ my cat loves the hair band fetch. Leaves them by her water bowl when finished .
Best toy is an old fishing rod to cast a catnip mouse. You can watch TV /relax and throw out some casts and the cat goes nuts. Likes biting the line though and have to tie it back up . |
Hee, I get the sandpaper tongue, too. Vigorously. On my face. Then I get the surprised face when I move away. She can't imagine why I wouldn't like it. Mine also love hair band fetch. Oh, and water glass fun. No matter how many bowls of water available, trying to sneak a drink from the human water glass is all the fun in the world. |
My cat also does that. He plays fetch with ear buds, small fluffy balls and he has his favorite light weight toy mouse. He wants us to throw it and he brings it back. We never trained him. He is like that since he was 5 months old.

| Our bunny is so smart and is secretly planning world domination! |
Mine too He is getting bigger every day, and associates my entering the hutch area as "treats". So I guess there is that.

| I've had my mutt for 10 years - she was a rescue with a bad childhood. She's a mush and also totally neurotic. The combination of the two means that during every thunderstorm, I'm guaranteed to have a 50 pound dog on top of me. Love her to pieces. |
We just got a thundershirt for our neurotic one and it really helps. We've managed to avoid giving her Xanax since getting the shirt. |
