Went to a Red Lobster tonight and it was PACKED and not cheap

Anonymous
I am not against chain restaurants in theory but we don't get to them much. Met some relatives at Red Lobster tonight and could not believe how busy it was. Literally a 40 minute wait. And the food was actually fairly pricey. You always read how Darden as a company is struggling but I would of never guessed it going by what we saw tonight.

Where was this? And, was it worth the money in your opinion?

Alexandria and my shrimp was a little rubbery but service and appetizers were good. All in all good experience.

Red Lobster is actually decent "fast" food in a niche. Not surprised it is popular.

Yeah, I would certainly go other places if I could choose, but if it happens that we end up at RL, the food isn't awful.

Mmmm. Lobster

Must have cheese biscuits...

Cheese biscuits. Mmmmm.

At the Red Lobster in Gaithersburg, you have to go at a very off time if you don't want to wait.

You folks are crazy if you think RL is good food.

This made me laugh. I was on a business trip once and a co worker made this whole "omg do we have to" scene about stopping at applebees. Ive never seen a bitch scarf down a quesdilla burger so fast.

Nope.

LOBSTERS are good.

Whether they are steamed at a dockside lobster pound in Maine, or in your kitchen, or in an overpriced, hoity toity fine restaurant or in blue collar Red Lobster, lobster tastes exactly the same. There is no difference that a fine chef's preparation vs an uneducated dockside worker or a novice in their kitchen is going to make.

And don't get me started on cheese biscuits.

Cheese biscuits!!!!!!!

I actually tracked down a recipe for them using bisquick. Not the same!!

Speaking of lobsters, how'd it become so upper class? Lobsters are bottom feeders and used to be the food of peasant fishermen.

Do you know how much auto correct I had to fight through to actually type "hoity-toity" on this phone??

I just learned this!

They used to feed it to prisoners, but it was considered cruel and unusual so they could only feed it to them once per week.

Then the Rockefellers bought all the Maine barrier islands around Acadia so that they could bring their friends up to "rough it" in their new rustic mansions.

They would bike, hike and boat aroundthe islands, and the locals would set up lobster boils around the islands for them and the other elite.

The rich people loved the lobster so much that they brought it into the realm of being a delicacy instead of food for the poors.
