The name Lula meaning "squid" in Portuguese? Would this ever become an issue?

Honoring a deceased and dear relative with the name, but knowing that apparently it means squid or octopus in Portuguese according to different websites is a concern of mine. I am just not sure how much of a concern it should be if any. Would it really ever pose a problem for the name bearer?

Do you have a name that has a different meaning in another language? Is it ever an issue?

i would always think of the character Lula from the Stephanie Plum books. Kick ass character, great name.

There's always the slim chance that her future partner will be Portuguese, but I think that's worth the risk if you love the name.

I'm Portuguese and Lulas are my favorite dish!!! It's an amazing traditional dish!

So even if there are comparisons it's a positive part of the culture so that helps!

Often what you find is a name that in another language is bad!

My mom didn't call my sister Natasha bc in Portuguese it would be na tasha like "in the trash"! So lula is at least a positive link

I'm from brazil and the biggest issue I see is not the is not the association with this lula:



But with this Lula (former president):




His face is the first thing that comes to mind when I think about "Lula". But, if you don't have contact with a lot of brazilians or don't care what they think, I don't think you'll have an issue. If you do care, but like the sound of Lula, how about Luna, Luana or Lua?

My cousins grandma is Portuguese and goes by Lula - nickname for Lourdes a Portuguese name. So if it's a nickname in Portuguese I think it's fine.

I wanted to use that name but husband vetoed it, he just didn't like it, he didn't know the meaning. I think it's beautiful.
