One day your child is eight and your family goes to the beach. Your daughter goes to play in the surf. She is an excellent swimmer and soon she is swimming in the waves. You are worried that she is swimming alone, so you call out to her: "Lula! Lula!"
Nearby, a group of vacationing Brazilian fishermen in a small boat hear your cry and see you waving at your daughter. Thinking to make an exceptional catch, they head over to her, catch her in their nets, and haul her into their boat. The fishermen are shocked and struck with wonder to find that their prize octopus is a small, beautiful, and outspoken child! They bring her back to the beach and worship her as a god. One year you return for the summer and find a statue has been erected in her honor. Your daughter always remembers the kind fishermen who rescued her, though she doesn't understand why they kept exclaiming "Calimari!" when they first pulled her in from the waves. |
You're my favorite poster ever. Thanks for making my day. --Signed Brazilian poster |
| OP, is Lula a nickname for your dear and deceased relative? |
