Tomato Explosion

I'm a novice food grower-- this is literally our first time planting a garden. After giving away about 3 dozen tomatoes, we have approximately 30 more in our kitchen (mostly roma with a few beefsteak and cherry tomatoes thrown in). What the heck do I do with them? A homemade marinara? (Do you have a recipe?) We are getting tired of caprese and BLTs.

Marinara sauce (no recipe, sorry) and freeze it. Next year maybe you could donate it to your local food bank.

This is a really nice idea--they so infrequently get fresh produce.

Me too. My kids eat them like they are apples and I go through at least 30 a week all year round.

I can salsa. 30 tomatoes will barely make you 8 jars.

I have the same problem -- tons of tomatoes ripening faster than we can eat them. I've never had a crop this good and walking through the neighborhood, I see others are having similar results.

Farmers market.

Jealous here too. A few green ones, but nothing edible yet.

OP - did you buy the already-grown tomatoe plants or start from seed?

We started from seed a couple weeks before Easter. I've never seen anything like it. Our plants are dying and collapsing under the weight quickly though. Had three plants at the beginning. We have staked and restaked and caged. I would guess we've picked about 70 tomatoes? And have maybe 40 green on the vine still? The peppers we planted though? Nada.
