Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS)
Yeah through voluntary donations and fund raising. They aren’t exactly collecting dues. I’ve found it to be a really good source of information and I’m not in Langley/Great Falls at all. |
We live on the opposite side of the county. My kids did community theater when they were younger. We met a lot of Herndon kids through these community and professional theater performances. Herndon HS has a very strong arts program. They are well known throughout the area for being strong in the performing arts, particularly theater. Bssed on our experience over the years with the Herndon kids who do theater, we always had the impression that Herndon was a very good high school. It wasn't until the rezoning stuff popped up hear, that I heard all the faults of Herndon HS. Really, the kids your kids hang out with in middle and high school specifically mean so much to the type of students they are going to become. Put your kids in the Herndon theater program with the theater kids. They will probably be fine. |
They regularly pay for FOIA requests, which add up. I wouldn't donate to them, but I hope they are using the funds for what they were intended for. |
Thanks for that information. Sad that there has to be a group that needs FOIA. I am grateful to those who donate. If FCPS would be more transparent, FOIA would not be necessary. |
It was only through FairFacts’ advocacy that the BRAC member list was disclosed and that they started putting their meeting notes online. Otherwise we’d all be in the dark about this. |
Also noting they just posted this. Thus far, this has been the only way for community members to engage with the closed-door BRAC. The pyramid nor special interest members are not doing this unless you happen to have a direct connection. “For those looking to send community feedback, please email us at brac@fairfactsmatters.org with your questions or comments. We have already submitted three communications reflecting community feedback and will continue to share the most commonly asked questions moving forward. We will provide previous communications with community feedback below.“ |
Does that make any sense? These changes will take effect two years later, do they plan to adjust a year from now based on 25-26 enrollment that could well shove some areas into new threshold categories? |
Soliciting feedback from residents? What evil monsters, amiright? 🙂 |
The majority don’t really care -if it is seems to make things more efficient- they are for it. The majority of the voting electorate does not have children in the public schools. This is just a blip to them. |
This! Same for band. |
This post oozes paternalism. |
Sounds like a SB member to me. Question: why are so many PP out of Herndon, but putting another neighborhood in is okay? There is lots of new construction in Herndon, as well. |
|
The Langley folks are absolutely obsessed with Herndon and trashing it non-stop on the FairFACTS Matters page over the past few days.
And Thru Consulting has said it's only looking at schools under 60% capacity or over 105% capacity, so that excludes both Herndon and Langley. No one wants Langley kids moved to their school. You people are pathetic. |
Huh? Where did you get that impression? Herndon HS is very well known in the DC area for having a very strong theatre program. The arts is solid there, and the Herndon theater kids are known for being well trained and professional. Do you know anything about the DC theater scene? If you did, you would know that Herndon HS is very well respected in theater. |
On the other hand, how many families have left the system for private or other areas because they were zoned for schools commonly avoided by middle/upper middle-class parents? |
