How do you buy it?
(Washed & packaged, unwashed, frozen) What's your favorite way to cook or prepare it? |
| I buy it at the farmers market, so its unwashed. I wash it really really well, dry it, de-stem it, chiffonade it, and dress it with lemon, lots of garlic, salt, pepper and oil. Usually add some sliced red pepper too. |
| I buy it in whatever is on sale. I de-stem it, rip it to bite size pieces and then roast it with sea salt and olive oil. If you roast it long enough you get kale chips. |
| I don't like it cooked but prefer it raw in salass. Kale caesar salad or Kale with a sweeter dressing and cranberries, pumpkin seeds is good. |
|
I get it in my veggie box box (unwashed).
I like it best raw, but massaged so the texture changes. With a miso tahini dressing. I like to make pesto with it too. Or an indian style fresh chutney with yoghurt and cumin to go with dahls. |
|
I pick it from my garden, buy at the farmer's market, or as a loose bunch. I also sometimes but the clamshell container of baby kale.
1. Sauté a sliced onion and some garlic in olive oil. Add the shredded kale and a little sprinkle of water, sauté/steam until almost tender. Add fresh lemon juice & salt, stir. Add a big handful of halved cherry tomatoes, cook for a few more minutes until the tomatoes soften. 2. Roast with olive oil, garlic salt & pepper. 3. Shred and add to soups, stews, or stir-fries. 4. Shred, toss with a lightly sweetened vinaigrette dressing, add chopped pecans, dried cranberries and feta or goat cheese. Add chicken if you want to turn it into an entree salad. |
| Raw in smoothies with some banana and apple. |
| Buy it unpackaged. I wash, massage, saute. |
|
Farmer's market, fresh- I sautee it in olive oil and garlic
Trader Joe's, frozen- I throw it into smoothies |
|
I either buy it fresh from the co-op in bunches, or in a giant plastic bag pre-washed and cut up from the grocery store.
I saute it, wilt it, throw it into sauces, and once in a while make kale chips out of it that nobody but me will touch. I also sometimes feed it to our two rabbits. |
