I know this is all relative, but how do you tell if someone you see is older (from your perspective)? Is it their style of clothing, their hairstyle, the way they wear their makeup, wrinkles in certain areas, what is it? And how old are you?
I'll start. I'm 42. Quality of skin and loss of muscle on their body. |
Look at their neck. A giveaway every time.
I'm 41. |
If I can smooth the wrinkles out of my face by taking off my bra, I'm old.
...thanks. I'll be here all week. I second the skin tone. |
I usually look at the hands, they usually give age away (with some exceptions). |
I second the hands. No one gets a "hand lift" and they are the one part of the skin that most people forget to protect. My grandmother told me that the really old ladies at the assisted living facility are competitive over hands and she always lost because she was s sun worshipper her whole life. Still, at almost 90, her face and hair and neck were beautiful but her hands were wrinkly and spotted with age marks. |
eek, this is a depressing post. i would hate for someone to be looking at my hands or neck to guess how old i am. |
Sounds like a disease. Like how can you tell if someone has HIV.
We live in a sad society! And I'm really feeling it now that I'm 53! |
I find that between the ages of say, 35 and 45 (the age that most people I know fall into) it's really hard to tell. I know some women who look older than they are and vice versa. Much of it has to do with genes, some with how they take care of themselves, and of course, some with whether they've had work done. The hands can sometimes give it away, but I've also found that in this terribly cold and dry weather everyone's hands look dry and wrinkly. As far as muscle tone goes, I know many women well past 40 who have the body of a 30-year old or younger because they exercise like crazy. Again, most likely a gene issue as well. I'm 40 and I think that I look my age lately because I haven't been taking care of myself all that well and have gained some weigh and have low energy. But when I'm down in weight and in shape (which I plan to be soon!) I feel better and it is reflected in my skin which makes me look younger. I've been told I can pass for 35, and I'll take it! ![]() |
Reading glasses. |
Right on. OP, what inspired you to post this? |
Hey, I have reading glasses. I also have hair that's going gray, and I'm letting it (it's like growing your own highlights! ![]() I'm 35. |
I had DC late and I'm 10 years older than his playdates moms. They don't seem to know my true age and, thank God for that because once in playgroup one of them said she feels really uncomfortable with older moms...THOSE WHO ARE OVER 40. I cringed. I asked her why. She said she couldn't put her finger on it, maybe she'd feel like she was with her mother. So I'm really feelin' the age discrimination thing among younger moms and wondering how I can hide my age better. I know I should be confidant about my age but if these women won't meet up with me because of my age then I worry it'll impact DC. |
LOL I just found out that I am 10 years older than the playdate moms too! No idea if they knew but I had no idea they were in their early 30s. |
That's me, too. A 40-something with a toddler. ![]() |
Me too! |
