| Can be sweet or savory. I'm the new (urban) girl in a provincial town. Anything in particular I should bring? All ideas welcome! I have 3 days to figure this out. |
| What ingredients will you have easy access to at a reasonable price? |
|
Goat cheese-stuffed bacon wrapped dates
Roasted red pepper hummus with vegetables Dark chocolate almonds |
| I can get pretty much any ingredient, barring the truly exotic. Something a little out there but not untouchable will work. Thanks for the ideas PP! |
| I should clarify, we have a whole foods out here, trader joes, and lots of farmer markets (especially amish markets!) |
| Hot artichoke dip with baguette. Sinful but delish. Look on Pinterest for a ton of ideas. |
| Have you worked with phillo dough before? |
|
If you have access to rice paper, you can make Vietnamese summer rolls:

| We made Indian street snacks this past weekend. You can google recipes to find something that you can do with the veggies and spices you can access, but a masala mix can be blended rather than bought pre-mixed. |
| Trader Joes has a Coconut Shrimp that is really good... they also sell a sweet and sour sauce that goes nicely as a dipping sauce. They also have a rosemary flavored nut you can put out in a bowl. |
| Cut 40 dried apricots in half (length-wise -- basically create two open faces). Soak for 30 minutes in a 1/2 cup of orange juice stirring occasionally. Toast some chopped pistachios. Remove the apricots from the oj and pat dry. Top each apricot with a little bit of goat cheese and top the goat cheese with 1 or 2 pieces of roasted pistachio and 1 or 2 pieces that aren't roasted (though, I have used all pre-roasted ones in a pinch). I get compliments and recipe requests every time I serve it. |
| Buy a skinny baguette, slice thinly, toast in the oven. Smear with cream cheese, top with a slice of smoked salmon, sprinkle with chopped chives. So yummy and looks gorgeous! |
This sounds really good and really different (and paleo?) Do you think feta or ricotta would work in place of goat cheese? |
| Wine. If you need something to go with it, get another bottle of wine. |
| I love an assortment of olives, some salami, and a goat or blue cheese with some crostini. Snack away and drink some wine! |
