It was horrible. But he already apologized and will face serious repercussions. His career is over even if he doesn’t resign.

Still waiting for the apology from that Catholic school...

The school is not calling themselves “Coon School” and neither are they elected to run a state.

Also the school doesn’t allow black-out games anymore and the black basketball player in said photo said their intent wasn’t racist.

What if Ralph is in the klan robes? He won’t say if he is, he is not even being honest or forthcoming about the photo.

O-u-c-h!

That’s assuming Ralph is in blackface in the photos.

He could be in the klan robe. I think he is. He refuses to say, and the media isn’t investigating.

With his use of the nickname “Coonman,” his refuse to shake a black man’s hand on live tv, and the photo, I truly believe this man is a racist.

Exactly. The man is a despicable racist. Just imagine how he treated his black patients. I knew a nurse who told me her racist physician employer made black people come in through a back door. He was a Democrat - of course!

Uh huh. And all of this newfound hatred of Northam's racism has nothing to do with late term abortion. Absolutely nothing.

So a man who went by the nickname “Coonman” and publicly admitted it, and appeared in either blackface or KKK robes and pointy klan hat and published the photo to commemorate his graduation from medical school is being unfairly targeted because he’s pro-choice?

Ok pretzel person. Twist twist twisty.

So what if it does? He proved himself this week to be a vile, sick, evil person. That didn’t take long

I'm sure this spells the end for old Mitchy too right?

Anyway yes obviously Northam is going to have to quit. There's no way out of this, I don't think. Or else maybe he'll become Senate majority leader as a Republican.

I HATE Mitch like HAAAAATE and find confederate regalia abhorrent but surely you see this is not quite the same thing as dressing up in blackface or a klansman?

It really doesn't matter whether he's the one in blackface or the Klan robe. It's on his yearbook page. I went to a southern VA. private school. We didn't do this crap in the 60's much less 1984.

Are we forgetting the Democrats elected an ACTUAL KLANSMAN to the Senate year after year?

The democrats are uniformly requesting Northam resign and somehow the GOP on this thread are saying the democrats are overreacting, or this is somehow owning the libs. Remember who Northam ran against? A Minnesota carpetbagger who embraced "southern heritage?"

We expect accountability out of our leadership. That is why Franken had to go too.

Imagine if the GOP had stood by "family values" when the Access Hollywood tape came out. Imagine if the GOP had rejected Moore in Alabama. Imagine if the GOP forced Steve King's hand. Imagine if the GOP stood up for voting rights, one man, one vote and equal facilities for voting at the state and precinct level.

And instead, we are getting that 'the dems are overreacting" - no, sorry, the GOP has stood by as racist after racist and mysogynist have claimed the mantel for the party despite the rhetoric of family values, fiscal restraint and peace through strength abroad.

I don't even know what the GOP stands for anymore, but it is nowhere near the party I grew up with.

As a former R, I think the Ds are wrong. But this is definitely one reason that I will never be a D.

You think Franken's resignation was the right thing to do. I think he shouldn't have done it.

Who knows what was the context for that. Clip doesn’t provide it. So no, not clear why he wouldn’t shake the guy’s hand.

The GOP are more subtle and thus more effective in their racism and racist policies that prevent our democracay from flourishing. Sorry if you can't see that.

Steve King (rep congressman, Iowa) says white nationalist stuff regularly (including in a New York Times interview 2 weeks ago). Republicans haven’t even managed to slap him in the wrist. Yet Democrats want Northam to resign for a picture that was taken 20 odd years ago. If Northam is a racist now, you think someone might have noticed it. Sounds like he has changed.
