So, where are your kids starting college next fall?

It's also very unusual to apply to W&M, UVA and JMU. They are very different types of college experiences.

Why? The expense? The humidity. The expensive frats and sororities. The lack of diversity. The 80+++ % of kids who participate in Greek life. That was a tour I wish we had cut from the list.

My kid didn't apply there for a couple of the reasons you mention, but it's still a very good school, and very selective. Congrats to the parents and kid who got in.

Hey guys, I have been through this twice. Doesn’t matter. You will find what matters are the parent connections that can help land your kid that internship if they are freshman or sophomore as it is quite difficult to get an internship at that level

Zero parent connections; internships after both freshman and sophomore year. What matters varies in all sorts of ways (kid, field, school).

But you were too dumb to know those things before going on a tour. Got it.

And really, it's no more expensive than any of the other top LACs.

U know, we don’t have to put down other people’s KIDS choices to feel superior about our kid’s choice.......be happy that every kid is going to a college he/her is excited about and hopefully graduate w no or minimal debt. I pray that all your kids will be safe especially in the first few weeks of college - that is a dangerous time for them to be in an environment where they don’t yet have a close group of friends to look out for them.

I might put it #1 on my list if I were applying to schools again. Humidity is the worst.

You do not honestly think that, do you? Virtually every high achieving public school student in NOVA applies to at least two of those three schools, and probably all three. UVA and William and Mary are a crapshoot, and everyone knows that, so many people apply to both. You are just completely wrong about this.

+1 most students apply first and decide after they get in. huge overlap between uva and william & mary in applications. and they don't call JMU Just Missed UVa for nothing. lots of kids apply there as a uva backup

Chicago is awesome!

+1! Chicago truly is awesome, and Loyola is a wonderful school.

Fantastic choice! Have several close friends who are Northwestern grads. Loved it.

Nearly every smart kid I know at our NOVA high school is applying to those three--W&M and UVA as top picks. JMU for greater likelihood of acceptance. All three because of in-state tuition.
