In response to that other thread asking where public school kids can learn to ballroom dance, Capitol Cotillion is a program open to all. It's great. I waltzed with DS at a relative's wedding just last weekend. It was wonderful. I was told by more than one man that they wished their moms had sent them to ballroom classes at a young age.

What's wrong with wanting your child to learn how to dance at an early age, having basic manners reinforced in a social setting (i.e., not just mother telling you the do's and don'ts), and making new friends.

I know the Cathedral Schools and St. Pat's participate heavily in Capitol Cotillion. What about other of the Big Privates, like GDS or Maret?

There are actually quite a few Maret kids there -- you can usually spot the boys because they seem so uncomfortable in their blazers. But as far as I can tell, they're all nice kids. GDS on the other hand? I suspect you'd be ostracized or scorned by the admin. and most other families if you enrolled your GDS child at such a thing as Cotillion.

A lot of Sidwell kids attend during fifth and sixth grade, but not after that.

Not a single one of the Jewish children in my DC's class at a Cathedral school (where I would guess about a third of the kids went to Mrs. Simpson's) was invited to participate. I would be shocked if (1) there are "many" Jewish children, and (2) Mrs. Simpson knows they're Jewish (though this is what her spies at the various schools are supposed to tell her).

Does anyone know of Mrs. Simpson's is still under the consent decree that they entered when they were sued for discrimination?
