A recent article offers some interesting insight into changes in programming and funding priorities at the KC:

Religious Programming:

*A new position—Director of Faith-Based Programming—has been filled as part of the leadership’s emphasis on religious and “common sense” programming.
*Leadership discussed bringing in Christian artists
*Public Religious Events: A June 1 public screening of “The King of Kings”, an animated film about Jesus narrated by the character of Charles Dickens, was ordered by Richard Grenell, the new executive director. (Despite “sold out” claims, only 55–58% of seats were filled.)
* The event included a Prayer Wall that visitors could write on and post prayers for the nation.
*Lisa Dale, the new head of development, invited staff to pray during a May meeting—eliciting an audible gasp from some employees.
She dropped the request after the reaction. In the same meeting, she warned that insubordination could be grounds for dismissal.

Vegas-style artist residencies:

Grenell has proposed long-term “residency-style” engagements for major stars, where they would perform over multiple weeks (Dolly Parton was given as an example). This aligns with the administration's artistic taste, potentially draws more conservative audiences, and may provide financial stability through longer-run shows.

Fundraising:

*The biggest moneymaking push for the Kennedy Center is the June 11 fundraiser for “Les Misérables.”  The evening is being treated like a traditional fundraiser at which major donors can buy a table and then dole out seats. Several “Les Misérables” performers in the production have said they plan to skip the performance in protest. Among the donation levels is the Gold tier for $2 million, which includes a reception, “premier seating” for 10 and a photo with Trump, according to a draft of the invitation seen by the Journal.

*Trump officials are courting wealthy donors, embassies, and even foreign governments for support, including Qatar for lounge. renovations.

[LOL. Looks like another way for foreign and other interests seeking to influence the Trump administration to funnel money to him via one of his projects.]

Just poor business decisions, frankly for selling tix. The irony of the conversation between Kennedy Center Executive Director Richard Grenell and Yasmin Williams in which (besides lying about the lack of an operating profit), he claimed the programs were too "woke" to earn money. Uh, sir, the center is in Washington DC and musical theater folks who buy tickets skew left.

Dolly Parton would never do that for Trump. Shamboozy is her god son.

That's a Tic Tok lie that helped launch Shamboozey's record sells. It worked.
