Here come the ECNL hats again.... This is the equivalent of Purdue claiming they're better at football because they're in the Big 10 or that Vanderbilt is a national power because they're in the SEC. Clubs matter more than leagues. Leagues only matter to the bad clubs that hope to sell the dream that league affiliation = playing in college. There are more good clubs in ECNL, but also good clubs in the GA. Get on one of those and you've got a much better chance of playing in college (not to be confused with a scholarship to play because those are extremely rare). If you're at a bad club in ECNL or GA, your chances are much harder.

You’re saying college scholarships for girls soccer are hard to come by?

d1 yes. And it’s going to get harder.
And guess where they will pull from? The best clubs not the best leagues.

Extremely rare? That’s an exaggeration.

The NCAA just increased the # of scholarships so won’t that make it easier?

The NCAA said you CAN now have up to 28 scholarships (to match the 28 players on roster) but it costs A LOT of money for a university to fund all those additional scholarships when they may have had the equivalent of 10 full scholarships to split up before. Outside of Power 4 programs, no one is funding 28 full scholarships in soccer. There is no revenue generated to pay for those scholarships.

Top players on each power 5 team will demand full scholarships. Think about how may scholarships will be dished out to returning players, New Players, transfer portal players.

Are programs reducing the number of scholarships?

Are programs reducing the number of scholarships?

Some programs will be increasing the number of scholarships. Others may reduce them. Overall, the number of total scholarships across all colleges may be similar, but not evenly distributed.

The new rules also make possible other sources of money for athletes outside of scholarships. NIL and sponsorships could mean that a player does not get a scholarship (money funded by the school directly) but does receive NIL money from corporate or boosters.

Nobody knows how this will all settle out. Anyone who claims to know is just speculating. So much will depend on the individual school, conference, and even the athletes themselves (some are more marketable than others).
