Thoughtful post. Thank you. |
Wow we made it 27 pages this time before a MM mention. Well done everyone, let’s try for 30 next time. |
After 28 pages can someone just tell me WHAT is wrong with her! Please! |
Chrons or diverticular disease requiring an open surgery colon resection (w/ or without temporary stoma) |
It doesn't because I don't worry about name-callers. They get their posts yanked by Jeff. |
Ok name a better one. America invented electricity, the telephone, the car, the airplane, the internet. We have the most Nobel prizes and Olympic medals. We create 90+% of the world's film and television. We're the oldest existing democracy. All without Kate Middleton's help. Imagine that. |
Holy cow!! That is serious! I wish her well. |
That is a best guess or released from the Royals? |
This whole thread is guesses. |
Royals said abdominal non cancerous surgery requiring 14 hospitals nights stay. |
Ulcer repair surgery. |
I think some further reading would help. The monarch has to approve a number of things and could in theory, in emergency, refuse or order dissolution of parliament. https://hitchensblog.mailonsunday.co.uk/2023/05/can-the-monarchy-survive-when-nobody-understands-it-.html https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.dailymail.co.uk/debate/article-11200247/amp/Peter-Hitchens-Head-State-not-politicians-true-defender-freedom.html https://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2022/09/08/queen-constitutional-monarch-understood-british-people/ How does it affect us day to day? Well, the armed forces work for our monarch. The courts. I am happy that so much land which could otherwise be in the hands of people like Putin or oligarchs or whoever, is in trust to the RF. QE2 was reported as saying she didn't own any of it, just looked after it. There is so much heritage in the RF, do much history. It's deeply ingrained in our culture. Some may be against monarchy, but still they would surely admit it is part of our culture. I find only good things flow from having a constitutiinal monarchy. It's right that they don't have political power as such, since they were not elected. If ppl wish to argue against monarchy on the basis of it being wrong ethically or morally or maybe economically then I'm all for it. Prince William has to listen to criticisms all the time even in public from commonwealth leaders who no longer want the British monarch as Head etc. It must he really hard. It will get worse. People will stage more protests etc now QE2 is gone. If Prince Andrew was going to be King I'd probably vote against monarchy if it was not possible for intervention and appointment of a different person as monarch. Like King Edward abdicated, and so he should have. Thank goodness it's Charles who took throne. William seems to be a perfectly decent human who will do his utmost for the UK. His homelessness and mental health projects are admirable. I loved the Duke of Edinburgh's projects too, as well as King Charles's laudable focus on the environment, protecting architecture, and the countryside. Dumfries House was 'rescued' by him and is an example of the conservation which the RF undertakes. Anyway, on topic, I really hope the surgery and cause will have no lasting impact. |
we're all probably way off. |
that doesn't require such a lengthy stay in the hospital |
