DC Public and Public Charter Schools
The plan is for it to be 200 forever. Total school size is supposed to end up at 800. |

MacArthur must be pulling talent from other DCPS schools. My non-MacArthur kid came home saying that his fav teacher is going there next year.
We’ll still get a college LOR, but it’s a bummer for the school. |
| So, what's the assessment of the first year? Strengths? Areas for growth? |
First year has been great. MacArthur is going to be a fantastic school - staff and leadership are excellent. Areas for growth are everything. It’s the FIRST year 🙄 |
| It's been really good. Teachers are great and there is a lot of support. My son enjoys it and makes friends. The lack of large upper class population leads to some FOMO, but it's hard to tell if that is real or imagined. Looking forward to year 2 |
| Great to hear. I can tell you that most of the out of bound applications are coming from deal, Adams, Stewart Hobson, which is an excellent middle school, and top performing charters in the city. It is drawing academically motivated kids, whose families are willing to make the commute for a small, rigorous, neighborhood high school. It’s going to rock in a few years. McCray is a superstar. I was on the selection committee that chose him and I know what I’m talking about. |
I am not surprised to hear this. I heard the principal actively recruited really strong teachers from around DCPS to come to MacArthur. It is also enticing for many teachers to switch to a brand new school and be a part of developing that culture. |
| Anyone else find the principal to be inauthentic and with a healthy dose of BS? |
No. |
How so? |
No. Im the one who was on the committee that chose him. Impressed me from the first moment and has never shifted in tone or content. |
| Kids say there are tons of fights all the time |
I wouldn’t be surprised by above and also behavior issues in the classroom with such a high at risk percentage. A generalization but true… |
Your kids say this? |
| I think its a good school that is on autopilot. Principal is learning his way. |
