What's your favorite song lyric of all time

Pretty, pretty please, don't you ever, ever feel
Like you're less than f*****’ perfect
Pretty, pretty please, if you ever, ever feel like you're nothing
You're f*****’ perfect to me

… And now that you're gone
I can't cry hard enough
No, I can't cry hard enough
For you to hear me now

I really like Jimmy Eat World The Middle:

Live right now
Yeah, just be yourself
It doesn't matter if it's good enough (good enough)
For someone else

I also like What's Up by Four Non Blondes--it has always resonated with me for some reason.

Another one I like is Joshua Madison Invisible Man:

Well it's no big thing, no revelation,
No answer to these lives we lead.
But I think I do know one thing;
Sometimes I think we all need to say;
"Here I am, here I am, here I am,"
When life makes us feel like the invisible man.

So many great songs and lyrics out there!

If you need a friend
Don't look to a stranger
You know in the end
I'll always be there

And when you're in doubt
And when you're in danger
Take a look all around
And I'll be there

I'm sorry but I'm just thinking of the right words to say
(I promise you)
I know they don't sound the way I planned them to be
(I promise you)
But if you wait around a while I'll make you fall for me
(I promise you)
I promise, I promise you, I will

I just love seeing all the Bruce lyrics throughout this whole thread. There's no doubt he's the best song writer of the last 50 years.

While I love Bruce and think he's brilliant, I'm not sure that he's the undisputed best song writer of the last 50 years.

The last 50 years have had some incredible song writers in many genres including Paul Simon, Stephen Sondheim, Elton John, Stevie Wonder, Michael Jackson, Billy Joel, John Lennon, Bob Dylan.

For me, I personally think that Paul Simon is the best songwriter of the last 50 years.

There are also women who are right up there: Joni Mitchell, Carole King, Dolly Parton

You are correct. Pardon my omission. And having just watched several clips from the Oscar winning movie, CODA, which included the lead singing "Both Sides Now" by Joni Mitchell, I can say that was a particularly beautiful song and so very, very appropriate for the movie scene. It worked amazingly well and is an incredibly well written song.

I'm traveling in some vehicle
I'm sitting in some cafe
A defector from the petty wars
That shell shock love away
There's comfort in melancholy
When there's no need to explain
It's just as natural as the weather
In this moody sky today

- Joni Mitchell, "Hejira"

You got a fast car
Is it fast enough so we can fly away?
We gotta make a decision
Leave tonight or live and die this way

Looking around for the friends that I used to turn to to pull me through

Looking into their eyes I see them running too

Unlimited… My future is unlimited.

Who can say if I’ve been changed for the better, but because I knew you, I have been changed for good.

Last night we let the liquor talk
I can't remember everything we said but we said it all
You told me that you wish I was somebody you never met
But baby, baby somethin's tellin' me this ain't over yet
No way it was our last night.
