Good for your kids I guess but that is very unusual. Most kids are on instagram. |
Yes, they don’t actually post like adults do. They use the stories. That is where they congratulate their friends on getting into certain schools. That is where my DD finds out where everyone is going to college. I think they also post on Snapchat stories. |
Lots of top colleges dont care about Wash dC private schools, their grade deflation or their Go Deep /Don’t cover much mantras. Plus the weeks of social agenda classes on the transcript. |
These are completely different scales. Colleges convert all gpas to a common scale in order to compare. A 4.3 on a 5 pt scale is actually lower than a 3.7 on a 4pt scale. Isn’t anyone else tired of all the hyperbole. |
And most colleges still won’t care about the forced curve at some DC area private schools. The point remains many top students won’t be getting the small handful of top grades in most of their classes, they are curved DOWN. The distribution is not the same as other private or public schools and the students suffer. Ask your private school how many TRANSFER applicants they handle each year from the preceding year’s graduates. Get 10 years of annual numbers and percentages there and report back. |
Subjective grading and hyperbole is all that’s left if you’re not sitting for AP tests or submitting ACT or SAT scores. |
And don’t forget that WDC’s definition of a “good k-12 school” is solely based on college admittances. Just don’t include the comorbid data like recruited athlete, big donor legacy, URM, or all of the above. |
I think AP scores would help rather than hurt private school students. Also helpful when applying to the UK and Canada.
Too bad, private schools decided to get rid of AP classes. Maybe Harvard, Yale, Columbia, etc., don’t care but it would have helped at big state schools like UVA, Michigan and Wisconsin. At least WIS still has the IB program. |
The private kids still take the AP exams, just not the classes. |
Clearly you are wrong!! I know for sure of several NCS girls that have been accepted both ED and EA to top 15 schools. Several. No they are not posting about it and neither are their friends. |
I don’t believe this. Maybe 1 or 2 don’t post but it would be weird to hide it. No way is this true. |
That is just dumb. More pressure on the kids to study independently for AP exams. Private schools appear to have overplayed their hand. I’m glad my youngest kid is a senior and we are leaving this ridiculous system. Parents are just lemmings who blindly follow along and repeat whatever nonsense their school feeds them |
Maybe but judging from the strong college placement at DC’s private, the APs really don’t matter |
Most high school classes at DC independents might not bear the AP designation, but they teach students what they need to know on the AP exams. What these schools do not do, though, is teach to the test or teach their students various strategies for taking standardized exams. As for the rest of your post, do you always speak in hyperbole? |
Look in the mirror lady. You sent at least two kids through. |
