Canceling $10k of student loan debt is stupid.

Yes, that is a really dumb argument and...

+1 million. I think people need to look inside themselves and think about why they want people to suffer the same thing they found difficult.

Democrat thesaurus: Hard work/personal responsibility/smart choices/sacrifice = suffering

Republican Thesaurus: individual borrowing forgiveness = bailout, freeloading; tax cuts for billionaires and handouts to corporations = “incentivizing competitiveness”

Such a crock of bullshit.

1. It is bailout/freeloading
2. as long as law allows that, it is what it is. If you don't like it, have Congress change the law.

If you can’t see the internal inconsistency in your statements, then you’re just being obtuse. Also there isn’t a single tax law that elevates corporate welfare above individuals, in case you’re new here. It is a conglomeration of policies that have been lobbied for extensively over time by corporations.

+1 Democrats--as part of a once in a century pandemic support, will spend $300 bn to do partial student loan forgiveness for people with lower incomes who borrowed to improve their opportunities for employment
Republicans-as part of a once in a century pandemic support, did loan forgiveness for nearly $800 bn to "small businesses" which were mostly well-connected Republicans and rich owners like Reese Witherspoon and Tom Brady and Jared Kushner.

+1 Exactly. Those people had hundreds of thousands, often millions of loans forgiven EACH. And there were a ton of sham companies that were created to get loans and have loans forgiven. If you haven't been moaning about the unfairness of this program for years then you really don't have any rights to complain about the student loan forgiveness that 87% goes to LMC and MC borrowers.

+1. As a left leaning Independent, these AOC-sh*t is enough to vote moderate R. So f'king tired of it.

This. Graduates have not had to make payments in over two years. I think the payment stop has fueled some of the insane travel crowds over
the last two years.
What happens when the payments start back up? Will we see defaults or will people reprioritize to make sure they pay the loans? I think we'll see defaults from those hoping for more forgiveness.

This is why Joe Biden is baiting independents and right-wingers into restarting student loan payments and litigating the forgiveness. By 2024 a huge percentage of Millennials and Gen Z will have $400/month student loan bills with no budget for it (crypto investments and CC debt) and have Republicans to blame. None of you can even see how you're getting played into losing a generation of voters.

Really?

Factory workers and coal miners are historically D due to support for unions.

R are crack pot evangelicals and gun nuts… there are a lot of them sadly.

MTG is going to look like Pelosi pitching Obamacare to the Tea Party soon when she fights student loan forgiveness while her base owe $50k to culinary schools and for-profit trade/tech programs.

?? One is bad social policy, the other is (in worst case) bad tax law.

See? Your comment shows why Dems are not any better than GOP. Since they are on the other side, who cares?

Yeah, but a lot of those purples states, margin is very thin. I am sure there are enough people like me (who voted for D in 2020) willing to cross the line in 24

Over giving LMC/MC students a student loan break? As a small drop in the bucket to address how federal policies impacted college affordability for this generation? Biden also has instituted work in making community college free/more affordable, and, given more Dems in office, will address college affordability overall--adding particular targeted support in high demand majors. What do the Rs have on offer except tax cuts for the wealthy and bathroom and book monitoring while shoveling money to private companies to grift K-12 education funds?

How do you feel about the PPP loan forgiveness that the Republicans did?
