Canceling $10k of student loan debt is stupid.

I agree. The loans for education should be 0 or very low interest.

So the math is tricky, but they did actually address this. Under the new plan as long as you're enrolled in IBR and making payments (even if the payment is 0), interest won't accrue. This is the real game changer.

+1. As a left leaning Independent, these AOC-sh*t is enough to vote moderate R. So f'king tired of it.

This. Graduates have not had to make payments in over two years. I think the payment stop has fueled some of the insane travel crowds over
the last two years.

Wow, this is insightful and makes a helluva lotta sense!

No it is not. It’s like giving everyone $10,000 to buy a car. A week later …oh look all cars cost $10,000 more. This will just raise the cost of college.

There isn't forgiveness going forward so it won't have this impact--only loans issued before June 30. We still need more work to address college affordability, but this action doesn't worsen it.

Yup. How do you possibly vote in the next election with two awful choices.

I will tell you right now, I am not voting for DT, I am not voting for JB. Between those two, I will stay home.

Yes, that is a really dumb argument and...

+1 million. I think people need to look inside themselves and think about why they want people to suffer the same thing they found difficult.

Democrat thesaurus: Hard work/personal responsibility/smart choices/sacrifice = suffering

Republican Thesaurus: individual borrowing forgiveness = bailout, freeloading; tax cuts for billionaires and handouts to corporations = “incentivizing competitiveness”

Such a crock of bullshit.

1. It is bailout/freeloading
2. as long as law allows that, it is what it is. If you don't like it, have Congress change the law.

College deans are absolutely going to jack up prices and build that gold-plated faculty lounge, now that they know that the government will just bail students out.

There are two kinds of people: those who think I struggled so you should too, and those who think I don’t want others to struggle like I did.

I hope this backfires big time in November for Dems. Truly stupid move 3 months before the election. How is it fair to working class families - who gave up college dream - because couldn't afford tuition?

There are two kinds of people: those who think I struggled so you should too, and those who think I don’t want others to struggle like I did. I would like to think most working class families aren't so resentful that they don't want others to have the opportunities they didn't have.

+1 Democrats--as part of a once in a century pandemic support, will spend $300 bn to do partial student loan forgiveness for people with lower incomes who borrowed to improve their opportunities for employment
Republicans-as part of a once in a century pandemic support, did loan forgiveness for nearly $800 bn to "small businesses" which were mostly well-connected Republicans and rich owners like Reese Witherspoon and Tom Brady and Jared Kushner.

Not that many in the dems base. Non college educated typically don't have a college dream and vote R anyway.
