I bet it's mostly so the parents can brag.

Dang. That’s some expensive brag. Especially since we rarely bring it up. At least if I spent that money on expensive cars and flashy clothes, my privilege would be much more apparent. Stupid me!

Rarely bring it up? I have yet to meet a private school parent that doesn’t bring it up FORTHWITH either as a humblebrag or an indirect hint. Not to mention the bumper stickers and sweatshirts. It’s all meant to designate their privilege and access against the nasty poor plebes who have to rough it out with the gangs, bjs and heroin needles of the publics.
You guys are disgusting. My public school kids will outpace yours in every area of life as my public educated husband outearns and has built a better life than every single private school classmate of mine.

This rings true and I’m a private school parent.

Best comment yet on this thread: Stop trying to buy things that should be earned.

Repeat after me, DMV area parents, parents of the precious over privileged littles at Bullis, Sidwell. Potomac, the overpaying lowers like Langley. Stop trying to buy what must be earned!!
Not the reason my kids are in private school... especially with the state of the public school system right now with the pandemic and post pandemic. So grateful to be able to provide them this experience. Even if it is really costing us financially.
What’s the state of the public school system? Our kids are getting a fantastic education at our local public and as high income earning parents we pour a ton of resources into the children as students and as humans and into our school and community. Our school is in a good spot in part due to parents like us. We need more people to opt in, not Pay to Play out.

We’ve enrolled in boys “rigorous” Catholic private before the pandemic and it is not worth the money and I am confident in saying that even if it were at no cost, it’s still a tremendous disappointment.

Montgomery County public schools were a sh*t show during the pandemic and are still struggling. (Head over to the MoCo Public Schools discussion if you want proof.). Private school applications are up, and this is part of the reason. It’s not about prestige for everyone. It’s about the options available to the individual family in terms of zoned public and ability to afford private.

Why do you bother to read or even post on the Private School forum, then? Curiosity? Have chips you want to knock off of strangers' shoulders?
I wonder why would you get yourself so annoyed by private school parents and why feel so competitive with private school kids if you are confident in your choice with public schools?

We've done both public and private as our needs change. The reasons we make any family decision are both personal and complex. I assume everyone makes decisions for their family based on many factors that are not immediately obvious to me and I'm comfortable with that. But reading this thread, clearly many full grown adults don't give people the benefit of the doubt. That's gotta be exhausting and all I can think is you have one of these:

"A chip on one's shoulder"

-a deeply ingrained grievance or feeling of resentment, often deriving from a sense of inferiority and marked by aggressive behavior.

You see the flaw in this thinking, right? Of course you haven’t met the private school parents who don’t bring it up because . . . They don’t bring it up! You seem awfully angry for someone who purports to be very confident with the school choice you’ve made for your children. I’m not questioning that choice, just pointing out that the anger seems . .. extreme.

As a parent you owe it to your children to always consider if they’re in the right place, whether it’s a private school parent Sri using to make the switch to a public school for a variety of reasons or the other way around, a public school parent wondering if it’s worth it to throw this much money at something just to gain access to a club of privilege. Basically these posts both in the private school and public school forums absolutely do inform their
I going conversation.
So many angry and enraged private school parents on here lashing out as private school parents ALWAYS do at the poor plebes from
Public who dare to read their private school posts!!! As always, it’s to be expected. You’re to be reminded that it’s your ($40-$50K a year) schools that are private, not this forum. Read and post away.

Read the privilege, condescension and desperate bargaining for a scintilla of common sense contained in these posts. If they don’t spark a glimmer of outrage and indignation in you, you HAVENT been paying attention.

Are you always this dramatic?
It is really puzzling why you would go onto a thread that doesn't apply to your own family situation if it only serves to anger you. I mean, why? Yes, of course, anyone has the right to read and post on these forums, but what is the wisdom here?
