This is inspired by a comment a co-worker made to me; she said she only wore a wedding ring and not her engagement ring because she felt it was too gaudy and unsafe for the metro. Her engagement ring, in my opinion, is beautiful but modestly sized at probably around .5ct. We do work in a gentrified area where crime is on the rise.
So, do you wear your engagement ring or other jewelry on the metro? |
|
Yes.
Maybe if it was late at night I might turn the diamond in. But mostly I don't even think about it. |
| Yes. |
| Forgot to add -- I'd be more concerned about my phone or tablet. Those are much easier to snatch and grab. |
| your coworker thinks her 0.5ct ring is too gaudy? |
| Yes-- crime on metro is mostly crime of opportunity. Hence, the snatching of iPhones, iPads, etc. To steal an engagement ring is pretty violent-- not likely to happen. |
| Um, put your iPad away, and don't sit by the door if you must have it out, and you should be fine. |
OP here. Those were her exact words: "It's too gaudy and showy for the Metro." |
| I have a large ct ring but honestly, post pregnancy chub/fluid retention means I'd have to have my arm sawn off in order to get it. Not a great crime of opportunity. |
LOL- Thanks for the laugh |

Yikes, the really nutzo part is that the iPad robber tried to have his victim killed!

| Jewelry, Ipads, smart phones = really dumb idea on the metro; period! |
|
This makes me LOL.
If you're afraid to wear a regular sized diamond ring on the metro, you have fear issues that are irrational. I am careful when I sit near a door with my phone and probably wouldn't use my iPad, but come on people. Someone MIGHT see your ring and think "I bet they have cash in their wallet" but no one is likely to bother you if you look alert and confident. |
