I need to put off a shopping trip one more day, so I'm out of fresh produce. Any way to make frozen broccoli not completely mushy/gross? Even if I cook it for half the time recommended, it's always too soft for me.
Any oven hacks? Like maybe defrost and then roast? |
| Steam it. Sprinkle cheese? |

roast it with olive oil, garlic powder and parmesan cheese at 425 for about 30 minutes Delicious!
|
| p.s. no need to defrost first -- you can do this from frozen. |
| Make broccoli cheddar cheese soup. |
| We never cook it. I only buy it to make a small number of guest kid-faves and in every case,I am just stirring defrosted frozen broccoli into something else that is already hot (typically freshly cooked rice which I am then going to mix shredded cheese into). |
| Fry/brown it a little in a pan with olive oil and garlic powder. It will have that sort of grilled/restaurant taste. |
Like a PP said, no need to defrost - just put it right in the pan. |

Yes...
1) Glass bowl, cover with plastic wrap. Microwave it - 2 min . Turn over the broccoli, recover and nuke again. Then you can pretty cook it normally. 2) Other method is to cook in low sodium chicken broth, or use 'about 1/2 normal amount of 'better than bouillon' add 1-2 tbsp of salted butter depending on how much broccoli... |
| Make soup! |
| Cheese sauce is the answer you seek. Also cook it in a steamer basket so it isn't wet; that's what makes frozen veg unpalatable to me. |
No the OP, but really? I roast frozen brussels sprouts but have never tried it with broccoli! I'll try this. |
A different poster, but broccoli roasted like this is delicious. I devoured two servings of it last night. |
| We usually steam it in the veggie steamer, and it's not so bad. |
