Short term investment suggestions

| Help DH and I please. What are suggestions for short term investments of about 10-15k? We are interested in annual investments, maybe / years as we want to make sure the money is available if we have an emergency. Help the laypersons! |

| if you are feeling lucky, put it all into an s&p 500 index fund (use vanguard's; the fees are very low). if there is any chance you will need the money in the next few years, or if you can't stomach a 20-30% loss in the short term, put it in a CD or an online savings account (the returns are terrible, but it's safe). |
