| Someone on this forum asked earlier where you can find information on teacher retention. In researching info on IT vs MV (MV is better, by the way, academically and financially), I found that in the schools' annual reports, which you can find on the DC public Charter school board website, they include the teacher attrition rate. For instance, IT reported 23 teachers with a 13% teacher attrition rate (this may be because the teachers who are working on their certification leave after a year or two?). MV reported 31 teachers with a 0% attrition rate. YY reported 46 teachers with a 10% attrition rate. Pretty interesting stuff. |
| It's very interesting that this person has posted multiple times about "MV being BETTER than IT" based off of their research. So, you prefer MV? Got it. |

Yes, IT has a residency teaching model where some classes have a Master teacher (some with 10+ years experience) who serves as a trainer for a resident teacher who is getting their Masters Degree in Education & Teaching Certificate. In addition, many classrooms have a Paraprofessional (and another teacher if IEP.
The resident teacher is only there for a year and then a new resident teacher replaces them the next year. The resident teachers are often selected due to their dynamism and ability to teach in the classroom (vs because they have a degree or look good on paper). IT has little teacher attrition minus the usual people moving, etc. The academic scores on the charter school site show IT with higher academic scores than Mundo Verde in the lower grades. But I don't think looking at scores alone helps in deciding on a school for your child. Many folks at schools in DC will tell you that. |
LOL. Looks like OP has an axe to grind. Not a fan of IT, huh? |
| Yes, our DCPS PK3 teacher is from IT. She's is terrific! |
I'm not OP, and I don't see the axe. PP may have an axe. OP - You'll have to explain the data more, because I'm not following and am not familiar with the acronyms. |
You'd have to look at OP's collection of recent posts to see a pattern. |
| The point of this thread is that if you want information on teacher attrition rates, the various schools' annual reports have this information. |
Many of us have MV and IT as our top 3, we would love to know how you determined MV is btter academically and financially. TIA |
+1 |
| Look at the PMF reports, annual reports and budget. Review each school's assessment tools that they use and the corresponding efficacy reports. Also look at the report cards on my school dc site. Also compare MV and IT with other schools using the same resources. I was surprised at the results but stats trump "feelings" for me. |

OP, are you the parent of an incoming PreS3 kid? You sure sound like it.
There are a lot of objective measures you can look at to try to define what school is "best." But at the end of the day, what matters is only that you child is happy, is learning, and is loved at their school. In our era of charters and different learning environments, what works best for one child may not work best for another. Washington DC is lucky in the sense that there are a number of schools that are well run and provide a good educational environment for children. "best" is, at best, a subjective measure. Now, if you're looking to invest in a for profit enterprise, looking at which entity is the most well run may be the most important variable. MV is, undoubtably, well run. It may very well be the most well run charter school in DC. The year my child attended, I was pleased with that aspect of the school. But as for how my child was taught, what she was learning, and how it "felt" as a learning environment for her - well, I have to say I'm glad the lottery was good to us and we got into a West of the Park DCPS. It's simply a better fit. FOR OUR CHILD. But not as well run. |
IT has higher 2013 scores than Mundo Verde comparing the lower grades. Not only did IT have higher criteria (they set their targets at 70% whereas Mundo Verde set theres at 60%), IT had more than 99% proficency in lower grades whereas Mundo Verde had 95%. I don't know what you're looking at, but from what I see IT is ahead. I don't put much stake in these reports but sense you brought it up I thought I'd double check. |
| MV parent here that is happy but think IT's teaching model is excellent and think most children would do well at IT with a great teacher. Not sure what OP is trying to accomplish but after reading quite a few of these "lets rank which school is superior or has xyz problems" is getting tiring. |
Agreed. I'm sure all of these schools are great in their own way, and are pretty similar in terms of student outcomes (except by a few percentage points on fairly subjective measures). There is no end-all measurement to determine such a thing as a best school, and the fact that the majority of people whose children attend these schools seem to be satisfied is a really wonderful thing. |
