Why did they let the doting, protective husband facade drop and why don't they seem to care that this looks negative for him and for the stability of the monarchy at a time when Charles has cancer?

I think people forget how dumb the monarchy really is. They were like this during the Diana tragedy as well. Cavalier and trying to go through life as usual while the country/world was in mourning. They don’t understand that they have to be performative at times and pretend to be emotional.

The people wanted to see Will on one knee crying in front of the hospital. Since they don’t see it, they think the royals are cruel.

People these days think people are like movie characters. They want to see the meltdowns

If she was/is in rehab, then visits would be infrequent.

Anyway, no, the public doesn't want to see William weeping. They just want Kate to be not-in-a-coma.

If William does divorce Catherine, I will feel bad for little George - no one will want to marry him. What woman would possibly sign up to be the 3rd generation jilted wife of the future monarch?

This theory is one of the two that make sense to me. She’s deliberately not cooperating with whatever messaging KP is trying to make, as it’s her only leverage. And she knows she needs leverage or she’ll get screwed on accessing and influencing her kids - the only reason Diana is seen with sympathy is because she died dramatically and tragically.


I also understand why William would want a divorce, but I also don’t understand how he could be stupid enough to think it would be at all good for his image and popularity. But I might be underestimating his stupidity and ego…

I also think she, like many Brits, is a genuine believer in the importance of the royal family (have you ever spoken with an English royalist? She is choosing to not go out of her way to make it better because she's screwed no matter what she does. A cosmetic procedure doesn’t explain the ambulance on 12/28 and the rearrangement of her schedule.

Whatever happened was definitely not a planned surgery.

Easy. 12/28 previous lap band slips or she experiences pain with it. Her doctor had plans to replace it or cut the stomach to shrink it already on the books for 2024. The surgery is not one that would have delayed her trip to Italy or wherever they were planning to go. But around the same time they decide to divorce. The divorce causes the delay in appearance and updates. They give a lengthy hospital time frame to have eyes focused on the hospital while they arrange the living situation at home. They’ve separated. They cancel the planned trips and appearances because she doesn’t want to put on a facade. She wants the public to know it’s over. Because she doesn’t want to be near him - he/KP use an old photo to pretend it’s a new Mother’s Day photo this year. Photoshopping because hey, this will do, no one will be the wiser .. wrong! But because they disagree they have to make her look bad in the public eye.

Happens all the time IRL. Gary, why isn’t your wife coming to the holiday party? Oh, she’s at home with the kids who are sick, three months later Gary announces that they are headed for divorce or it’s already finalized!

The core issue is that the marriage is on the verge of complete breakdown and Catherine is on the outs. And this is absolutely within the realm of possibility in the highly dysfunctional Windsor family. The Palace was similarly dysfunctional when Diana and Charles were breaking down.

This theory is one of the two that make sense to me. She’s deliberately not cooperating with whatever messaging KP is trying to make, as it’s her only leverage. And she knows she needs leverage or she’ll get screwed on accessing and influencing her kids - the only reason Diana is seen with sympathy is because she died dramatically and tragically.


I also understand why William would want a divorce, but I also don’t understand how he could be stupid enough to think it would be at all good for his image and popularity. But I might be underestimating his stupidity and ego…


The other theory that makes the most sense to me is that there isn’t anything more nefarious than usual (he’s a jerk, she’s a vain PITA), but they are so clueless, self-centered, and egotistical that they actually believe the whole “anointed by god” thing and can’t fathom how this looks bad for them.

I think Kate is the only royal who isn't clueless about image. She's the only one who really had to work to be in the position she's in. I also think she, like many Brits, is a genuine believer in the importance of the royal family (have you ever spoken with an English royalist? As an American I truly cannot understand the off-the-charts patriotism of everyday commoners). I don't think she would intentionally screw up their image. She is choosing to not go out of her way to make it better because she's screwed no matter what she does. William is one minor medical issue away from being King, he can get what he wants, and might not be totally unreasonable in thinking that royalists are going to remain loyal to him no matter what he does to Kate.

The only other theory I'd buy is that whatever health issue she experienced left her severely disfigured *and* the PR Kensington Palace team is way, way more incompetent than we thought (and I didn't think they were competent to begin with).

I think she had a cosmetic procedure to shrink her stomach to ensure she’s fit and never overweight. I believe they are also divorcing but the two are not in any way connected (surgery and divorce) . I believe the surgery was planned but the divorce was not. They just fell into the same timing.

I believe the eating disorder thing (especially based on the finger bandages) but even if she really did do all the photoshop, letting her take full responsibility for such a bizarre blunder instead of protecting her image *is* throwing her under the bus.

I don't think she personally did it per se, but had staff do it and took the fall for her staff. It only feels like Will throwing her under the bus because of the conspiracy theories. From their perspective, there is no divorce and it's simply her wanting privacy and dealing with her mental struggles. They/she likely just wanted to get the public off their case re the photo and so she took the blame, naively thinking that would end speculation.

What do you at a rehab for eating disorders? Can’t you just eat at home?

Intensive therapy. Psych meds. Daily weights. Monitored eating. If you’re very far in, they need to restart your diet carefully to avoid refeeding syndrome. If you refuse to eat, they’ll place an NG tube and tube feed you.
