Daughter is Obsessed with Bunk Beds

So my 7-year old REALLY wants to get bunk beds for her and her 4-year old sister (4-year old would sleep on the bottom). In particular, she is obsessed with this one:
http://www.amazon.com/Twin-Doll-House-Stair-Step/dp/B00H3IUBRO/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1401237937&sr=8-1&keywords=doll+house+loft+bed

I an considering getting them this for Christmas but I feel like everyone warns against bunk beds and says they are dangerous. This set looks a little safer to me because it has stairs vs. ladder and the top is totally enclosed. Also, I like that you can use a full size bed on the bottom.

Advice? Is this a bad idea? I realize they will only sleep in it for a few years but I figure I can always sell it when we're done.

I bought both of my kids. Bunk bed off of craigslist. My 7 yr old and my 4 yr old love them. Some nights they each sleep in their own bed either on the top or the bottom and some nights that both sleep in one bunk.

It's very cute (a bit too cute, but that's just me).

1. Making beds with a wooden surround like that is more annoying than a stand-alone bed.
2. Making the top bunk is particularly annoying. However, I have bunk beds for my kids!
3. Go over the rules carefully. No playing, ever, in the top bunk or stairs. No hanging stuff from anywhere on the bed.

You should be fine!

That is adorable and I think it's perfect! My 8 year old has a bunk bed & he loves it.

Agree - I have bunk beds for my daughters, who are a fair amount younger than yours. Strict rules (no playing in top bunk, never more than one person in top bunk, no hanging on or over railings). They love them and they're closer sharing a room.

OP here, I am so with you on that, but my daughter saw a photo online and this has now become her dream bed. We actually don't get the kids many gifts and definitely nothing fancy, and she rarely asks for things, so I kind of feel like indulging her on this one. Plus if we want bunk beds, something about this one just feels safer to me.

We have this one--
http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B00AESE3T2/ref=pd_aw_sbs_4

Bought it on craigslist for $600, and it was only partially disassembled so it wasn't as bad to put together. My 5 and 3 year old love it and their friends do too--once when they were gone with DH, my 9 year old DS had a sleepover and he and his friend slept in the girls' bunk bed.

It is a pain in the ass to change the sheets on the top, but impossible to fall out, and it is nice to have the storage it provides. We all lay in the big bottom bed to read stories at night; DH installed a strip of LED lights under the top bunk so it's great for reading.

I saw that one too but I was afraid it seemed harder to climb up to the top bunk. Does your little one get up there easily?

The problem with that is that they'll grow out of the little girl cutesy-ness of it in only a few years. Get a more "boring" one, and then put colored netting over the center to hang down to tart it up and make it cutesy in a way that can be removed.

The kids climb up no problem, but it hurts my feet unless I'm wearing slippers. My youngest was still 2 when we bought it.

And the price on Amazon is twice what it is in the furniture store where we live (Colorado).

Whatever you choose, please get them for her. There are plenty of models that convert to two (very usable) twin beds. I was obsessed with bunks as a kid and loved when we rented a beach house that had bunks. Seriously, after college and I had my first place, I almost bought bunk beds for myself to fulfill this dream.

We have a four-year-old and two-year-old. Do you really need to ask about their sleeping arrangements? (Although they share the bottom bed for at least another year or so.)

PP here, what about something like this: http://www.bunkbedking.com/bunk-bed-twin-full-stairway-white

I got my daughters' bunk bed from this site and have been very impressed with the quality. We did twin over twin of this model.

I hate changing sheets on bunk beds- so no bunk beds for my kids.

I wouldn't get that one only because your DD is at the age where she will quickly outgrow wanting to sleep in that kind of bed - by the time she's 11, she'll want a "big kid" bed, and then the younger one will also think it is for babies, too. I'd get a cheaper bunk bed (ikea), or at least one that isn't so clearly meant for small children.

Costco bunk beds are surprisingly great. Maybe http://www.costco.com/Gillian-2-piece-Twin-Over-Full-Bunk-Bed-Set.product.100049465.html ?
