| The Q1 girls on our team are in for a massive shock. Q4 girls in town have been 'playing up' for years and they are really good. I bet they can't wait to be star players next year and I don't blame them. Nobody is talking about the change on our team. It's like silently waiting for a bomb to go off. |
I agree that this will be a shock to teams. Playing up made the Q4 girls work hard to get so much better out of necessity. |
Technically, they weren’t playing up, just younger in their birth year but I get it. No matter the cutoff, there is going to be a group of young kids and a group of older kids. But I get the impression there is going to be a lot of teams that look completely different come next year at all of the competitive age groups except for maybe the oldest. 2013/12/11/10’s will be in for a ride. But the chaos will be short lived because after a month or two, things will be the new normal and life will go on. |
| I have a late December 2008 girls (a sophomore) currently playing with almost all juniors (one other sophomore 2008 on her team) . . . I will be thrilled if she can play with her school year (junior) next year! |
You and her both, I’m sure. Trapped players are in a bad spot in the current system, regardless of what the Jan - March parents try to say. This change will be great for many, but it’s not perfect. There is no perfect cutoff, just one that does the best for most. |
| The discussion at US Soccer is 11/22. But when do you think we hear from leagues and clubs? |
I believe it will be mid to late December that a decision will be made and passed along to all leagues and clubs. The 11/22 Board meeting will be to discuss and hear arguments on the issue. As you can imagine, some leagues want this more than others so both sides will be heard. We may get word on what US Soccer is going to do shortly after that meeting but it will probably be some weeks after that the leagues come out with their official announcements and plans moving forward. I would image the leagues and clubs will not announce anything on a whim, but instead take time to digest the decision and then let everyone know the decision, along with their plan moving forward, so most questions are answered when the leagues and clubs make their announcement. |
Immediately. Nobody is interested in dragging this out. The ECNL press release is already typed up. 11/23 they hit send and the chaso ensues. |
| If it does pass, has anyone heard any more rumblings on whether it will be an 8/1 or 9/1 cut off? For months I only heard about 8/1-7/31 but US Soccer said 9/1 was also being considered when they meet. Just wondering if anyone’s clubs have given any insight. Thanks! |
Don’t think so. I think anything from US Soccer is just lip service at this point. Trying to give the impression that they’re considering other options when all signs point to going back the way it was before (Aug. - July). Classic example of trying to fix something that wasn’t broken, only to break it some more. |

Do we think they will allow kids to play with their new age groups in the spring?
It will send shockwaves through the systems if a few ask to play with their new age group. I think tryouts will be fun. |
My kid's club announced vote is taking place 11/22 to all parents with background on the discussion. Will be many emails 11/23 if nothing is announced. |
This is the issue with SY it can be defined many ways. BY doesn't have this issue. If US Soccer kicks the decision back to leagues to decide on and implement they'll all choose different ways to implement because it will discourage cross league play. Basically the big tournaments with all the different leagues participating won't happen (as easily). It would also potentially push the GA ECNL league wars all the way into the youngers splitting them as well. This is why from the beginning ECNL said they wouldn't do SY alone. |
It will be all leagues that change. |
| So what. Not a big deal at all. It was this way in the past - twice. |
