I don't get this board. This person is telling you how the system works and the replies are a couple of snarky comments. This post is 100% spot on. These coaches have already done their HW on the girls that will be on the team. Of course they will miss a player that belongs from time to time, but I've been to enough tryouts to know that the selection process starts way before. |
The point has been made about 1000 times already. |
Agree it's a good and accurate post. Maybe the challenge is that there are dozens of pages on this topic going back a full year, so a lot of it is well understood. The second aspect is that much of the prior dialogue verged into territory that was intended to troll or scare people that weren't "playing the game" or "working the room" for years in advance. It was more than a bit much. It was insiders-only, IYKYK stuff (not to be confused with IYKYK guy), that didn't provide any real information on how to position for the process and rubbed a lot of posters the wrong way. My two cents. Plus with this much stress and stray voltage out there (for another 11 days or so), snark is easy; thinking and engagement are harder. |
| Is 28 Mnd West folding? Saw something in another board. |

When is the big day? As with any tryout, but particularly one as large is this will likely be, best bet for a newbie is figure out who the top dogs are and look to get matched up on them. The draw, 1 on 1's, half field, etc. Make some plays. Best way to not get lost in a very large shuffle is not be in it.
If you don't know who they are at the outset, you can probably figure it out pretty quick. |
How has the NCAA ruling on paying athletes impacted, if at all, everyone’s approach to recruiting moving forward? Do you continue to invest the time and money into the process like previous classes? It’s been reported by some with players in college that all rostered athletes will be paid now. This has the potential to impact non-revenue sport roster sizes because schools will not be ably to afford the big payouts to football and basketball and also to large non-revenue generating sports rosters. Several P5 schools have apparently already reported they will be cutting rosters by 30% to meet budgets. If this does happen, rosters of 40+, which many women’s lacrosse teams have today, will be cut down into the low 30s. Across 128 D1 teams that may mean 1280 fewer roster spots moving forward. This will probably also mean more roster turnover each year as coaches will not be able to afford to keep and develop marginal players. As you approach the recruiting years is this something people are taking into consideration when thinking about pursuing college lacrosse? |
| The big impact is that It may be better for those with top talent to look at schools ranked 20-50 where they can play right away or sooner, rather than top 20 where they may find themselves middle of the pack or lower. Better to be a top level recruit at one of those schools vs part of the pack at a higher level that may need to cut. |
| BTW, fans of this thread - the 2030s only have a little under 40 pages but I think they’re the best candidates for entertainment after the 28’s parents. |
Dude. My DD loves the sport; wants to keep playing through and after high school. Best club in the area is Capital. Makes sense to try and make it. That's enough to know for now. The future of college sports is not going to be clear for years, and won't be figured out on this board. |
Thank you, will check out. Hope the angst on Cap tryouts has started or will soon. |
It'll be really dicey for schools to be cutting back on #s in women's sports. I'll believe it when I see it. Schools have been living on "expanding opportunities" as their prong for Title IX, not proportionality. If they start cutting that growth of rosters, etc. that goes away. And they're now clearly in violation. Guess we'll see. |
If athletes are determined to be paid employees of the school I don’t know if Title IX will apply. I do think this will hurt the non-revenue mens sports harder than women. When it hits the mens sports it’s bound to hit the women’s side. Reduced rosters will be the reality moving forward and sadly some programs will fold under financial constraints. |
The classes that may be impacted the most are the 24/25/26 classes. It would not be a great experience to be recruited and committed with the understanding the team will carry 40+ players on the roster only to learn a year or two later rosters will be significantly cut to accommodate the new NCAA payment rules. At least the 27 class and above will have time to adjust to the realty of much smaller rosters. |
Which board? |
If they are ruled employees, they'll either be under Title IX (getting federal $$) or under employee laws. They will or would need to move football and basketball outside of the university. Which is possible, but not imminent as the NCAA is trying to string this out as long as possible. And stop the lawsuits, which is what taking away their prong 2 would initiate. 99% of people don't understand how Title IX has been working. No one has any idea whether reduced women's rosters will be the reality moving forward. That's just one guess. |
