It's official--feminism is dead

Seriously, paid menstrual leave…and women wonder why they aren't taken seriously. As a woman of the generation who championed women's lib, I can only shake my head and wonder what the hell is happening to women today.

Uh, I took sick days when I had terrible periods but didn't call the leave menstrual leave. Why the label? It's called a sick day. That should cover everything. (Where's Ralph today? Oh, he's taken paid food poisoning leave!)

Feminism better not be dead.

I would consider that part of sick leave. It's no one's business why you're sick

Menstrual leave?! A a woman, and a feminist, I think that's fucking absurd. I know some women have debilitating periods, but for most, it's minimally invasive. If you're periods are seriously interfering with your life, then you need a doctor, not special leave every month. Being a woman is not a medical problem.

Well said.

Actually a small percentage of women do need a leave every month. Very few. And if they have to take two days off a month, that probably exceeds their annual sick leave. I'd support that. I just would hope that folks called it sick leave. No one's business.

This is dumb and wouldn't be an issue if people were granted enough leave in general.

I also think OP is dumb for blaming women and calling it the death of feminism because some Asian countries decided to make leave labeled "menstrual" - God next thing you know they will make one called "maternity" leave, enough of this special treatment already..oh wait is that when feminism died?

C'mon ladies. This is not feminism gone awry, it's a function of certain Asian cultures that never got past the pre-feminist notion that women are unwell and need to rest during their periods. No one in the U.S. is advocating for paid leave specifically for menstruation.

LOL, they actually give paid menstrual leave in Dubai, of all places.

They'll put you in prison for a year for giving birth out of wedlock there, but hey, you get paid time off during your monthly.

There are people who need leave every month for a whole host of reasons. Designating leave for menstrual reasons as discussed in the article is ridiculous and is indeed the end of feminism if embraced by today's woman.

Feminism is dead because Japan, Taiwan, Indonesia, and South Korea have "menstrual leave" (but no paid sick leave for non-serious illness)?

I don't think so.
