| Does anyone know of local groups I can join? Mainly for camaraderie and advice. There are tons of running groups around but I can't find a local one for lifting. |

Local? No. If you're looking for fellow female lifters, I'd suggest [url=www.reddit.com/r/xxfitness]this female fitness forum[url].
As far as local, maybe start one on Meetup.com? I know if there was one in MoCo, I'd sign up. |
| OP here. I'm a huge fan of that subreddit and also a few other message boards. It would just be nice to have something IRL and unfortunately I don't have the time to start something on my own on Meet up. |
| I think these groups tend to happen organically in the gym. I lift with 2 or 3 other women daily (and guys too sometimes). If you're anywhere near Alexandria you could join us. |
| PP, I am near Alexandria. Where do you lift? |
| I'm in Arlington and would love a lifting buddy!! |
The Gold's on Rte 1! Are you already a member of a gym? |
| Yes, and it's not that one, unfortunately, although I am close to it. |

| I think these situations are hard to set up. I like to lift a very strategic way and I don't like to waste time (I am paying for 90 min of childcare and don't want to waste it) and I find most ppl who want to life together like to talk ALOT. I do enjoy gaining new ideas and constant change of work out is the key to success but in general any sort of work out partnership or group setting always kinds of fizzles. Also very few people are long term committed (I have been a daily gym goer since the early 90s) and Ive noticed most ppl live the "gym life" anywhere from 10 months to 3 years and than fade out. |

Pp how have you stuck with daily gym going for so long? I usually get into 3 to4 month stints, then ssomething comes up. I'm at 3 months now and want to make sure this is a lifelong thing. Any tips for us?
Also I'm the OP and agree too much chatter is bad. What I want is someone to high five me when I reach a PR or help with form checks, sharing programming, etc. I would ask one of the male lifters, but there is already so much ogling going on that I feel uncomfortable. |
I just make it a non negotiable. I take 1-2 weeks off about twice a year but besides that I do a 60-80 minute work out daily. Ive gone through months/years where its more cardio heavy, months/years where its more strength heavy, I've followed various fitness trends (jazzercise, bootcamp, piyo, insanity) but I always do SOMETHING. I don't enjoy it everyday but I enjoy it most days. I have three kids and was a SAHM for many years so for a big chunk of my life that 1.5 hours a day was my only kid free time so it made it even more important. I also always go to a gym. Working out from home just doesn't do it for me. |
