Bakery that can make a soy free cake?

Anonymous
I know there are bakeries around that do dairy free or egg free. Are there any that do soy free?

Um, aren't most cakes soy-free anyway?

PP makes a good point. I would only think soy is an issue in vegan baked goods. I think we're missing some information. What other information do we need, OP? Are there other dietary considerations?

Make your own butter cake. Soy may be hidden in some commercial cakes.

OP here. You would be surprised where you find soy in the cake, icing etc.

OP here. Yes I know. I normally make my own. However my Dd asked for a store bought for her birthday this year. Having never gotten her one before I'm not sure which bakeries to go to

Soy is everywhere. Most cakes have shortening somewhere - and that's soy. OP is right to look for a specialty place. We got a beautiful and tasty soy- and dairy-free cake from Sweet Moon Cakes in Takoma Park.

I would call around to your closest bakeries and ask. Also whole foods may be an option.

NP here. Our DC is allergic to dairy and soy. Soy is in so many different products it's unbelievable.
OP - does she react to soy lecithin? Most baking sprays have it as an ingredient, so you might want to ask about that as well as cross-contamination.
Just curious, do you know why she asked for a store-bought cake? Is it because she's never had one, thinks they look like they taste really good, or something along those lines? Just trying to prepare myself for what may lie ahead for us...
