Curious - why was my comments deleted?

Just curious why my comment was deleted from this thread? I was 7:48.

I believe all I did was +1 a previous comment that said seeking the cause of death was creepy and extremely intrusive when done by a virtual stranger. And at least she had the common sense to not contact the widow. The rest of the thread has pretty much concluded the same. Not sure why my comment was deleted.

My attempt to keep that thread on track failed. Essentially, the first or second response (I don't remember which at this point) asked the OP why she wanted to know in a negative way. I've noticed that the early responses tend to set the tone for the thread and I thought that if I could remove that post, the thread had a better chance of addressing her question rather than focusing on her and her motives. Someone was in the middle of replying to the post I was trying to remove while I was removing it. Therefore, when that post appeared, it quoted the post that I removed. Other posts quoted that one. I removed a couple of more posts from that thread, probably including yours, before I gave up.

I really wish posters would stick to being helpful or at least put themselves in the place of the OP. I am really tired of DCUM earning its reputation for being such an awful place. Attempts to change the tone normally fail, but I'll keep trying.

Guilty as charged. I will try to follow my own advice and myob if I can't stay on topic going forward.

Thx

So not seeing the posts that were deleted, are we expected now to be supportive or not post at all? I understand wanting to exclude the really nasty posts but this seems extreme.

At this point, I don't really care. I tried, I failed, I lost interest.

He's not wrong. Anytime. It's his website and he can do what he wants.

+1 OP here (of this thread). And, while Jeff doesn't in any way need me to agree with him (for the reason noted above), I do. I was off topic. While the original OP of the initial thread may have opened him/herself up to possibly off topic comments by providing so much extra info, I understand Jeff's point that I was off topic and my comments were deletable. Totally respect that decision and appreciate his clarifying comments above.

As always, Jeff, thanks for maintaining the site (I'm loving the new forums).
