Cheapest town to live in within 45 drive of downtown DC and not too dangerous?

I'm thinking Glen Burnie, MD. Other suggestions helpful. (I'll spare the details, but my finances are being involuntarily downsized.) Housing cost is a major consideration.

Sorry, meant to post in Money and Finances. I welcome the benefit of your experiences!

Do you mean 45 miles away or 45 min away?

Sorry. Meant 45 minute drive. (About)

I don't think you can make it from Glen Burnie to downtown in 45 min even under good circumstances. I'd shutter to think what that commute would be like on a Friday afternoon in the rain. Maybe look at Germantown, MD, or Springfield, VA

I can drive during off-peak times, but there is still congestion then, sometimes. I will look at Germantown and Springfield. Thanks.

Round Hill/Purcellville (VA)
Odenton/Glen Burnie/Lithintcum (MD)
Stafford (VA)
La Plata (MD)

Stafford is only 45mins from dc at 3am, assuming no construction or accidents!

If your finances are being downsized then definitely consider Montgomery County. There's a lot of help there if you qualify. Gaithersburg, Germantown would be my choices.

You could do Woodbridge, parts of Alexandra but eh...I don't know. I'd prefer the Montgomery County side if I had to pick. Virginia's housing prices further out stay lower because they never understood something called "smart growth."

Glen Burnie is not very safe. Check out Chesapeake Beach. Or Crofton if you want better shopping/dining.

Have a look at Hyattsville. May not be as cheap as some of those far-flung places, but some of those far-flung places are not reliably 45 minutes from DC.
