| Do you have any recommendations for a basketball camp for ages 9-12? |
|
My son likes the bullis BB camp.
There is a sleep away camp at Frostburg that his friends go to but he has never gone so I don't have personal experience. |
| St. John's College HS in DC has an excellent program for boys and girls run by the head coach. You can find information on it from the school website. |
| Sidwell has a good one for kids that age? |
| Sidwell has a good one for kids that age -- sorry, did not mean to sound inconclusive. |
|
They all have them.
The level of competition is reflected in the competitiveness of the school's program in general. That is, the DeMatha Camp will have more good players than the Sidwell Camp. Getting a camp where the kid can compete is important part of the experience. make sure the water isn't too deep. |
| My 'average' basketball player kids (daughter and son) have done very well at the Sidwell Basketball Camp - not too competitive and a nice environment (gym is fabulous too!). Some of my son's friends have moved on to St. John's which is more competitive and they really like that. |
| How is Headfirst? |
| HoopEd was great |
Had one competitive child and one relatively non-competitive child attend and both really enjoyed it -- they were good about recognizing the different levels of interest and giving each kid a good experience. |
Oh my god. What is up with you people who are you always going on about schools way out in the hinterlands? Who the hell ever mentions Dematha? For god sake no one on the DC Urban Moms forum, especially on the private school thread, wants to take their kid that far outfor a daily summer camp. I am truly not wanting to be mean but it's just so random. Perhaps you genuinely don't realize it's just not a relevant school to people who live in DC and the close in MD VA burbs? I mean if you really want to mention schools with more competitive basketball programs there are schools that are truly relevant like say, St Johns. |
| Madam, I assure you that for young serious basketball players in NW DC and Bethesda, DeMatha is entirely relevant … because it is DeMatha. But let me guess: You know little about DM's basketball history and you have never been to Hyattsville or maybe even PG County. |
lol..Madam knows zero about ball. |
Omg, her post was so random. I know kids that carpool to university of md and Johns Hopkins for day camps. Madam is not a baller |
| Georgetown University has some decent BB camps in June for boys ages 11-16 (they are short though 3-4 days) |
