Just curious--a common question on NYC school forums

What's your total annual HHI?

It is never enough.

I think its amusing that the people on this forum have no problem giving up every detail of their own child's iq test scores, but somehow take offense to this....

My HHI is not useful input for others making decisions about schools.

Comments about test scores are typically related to questions about their likely impact on the odds of admission or the likelihood that a school will be a good fit. This query, in contrast, is apparently motivated by nothing by nosiness.

Apparently in NYC it's more acceptable to talk about your income than about your kids' test scores. I don't see why NYC folks are justified in beating us up for this, even if they seem "worldly" to us DC bumpkins. Talking about your income seems not just unnecessary (as others have pointed out), but also really tacky.

Is the difference in obsessions because in NYC it's about the parents' career success, while in DC it's about the kid's chances for academic success? Just guessing here, would welcome alternative explanations

Oh yes, people in DC are so much less tacky than NYers. We only care about our children's academic success - hahahahahaha.

Thank you. I needed a good laugh.

Thank you 15:57. Nice to know everyone isn't applying for financial aid.
