Nah, the monarchy is swirling the drain.

William and Kate wanted to be country aristos for so long. Guess they didn’t realize what it took.

Love the monarchy. But if it goes one good thing is this thread would finally die and all the weirdly obsessed haters would have to find something else to obsessively hate.

It’s way more weird to love the monarchy. Your kind is dying out thankfully.

Anglophiles have been a part of this country forever. You're being ahistorical.

I too am ready for this thread of haters to die. There are no more cute pics of the children or glamorous pics of Kate and Will. No pics of the queen's now-rare public outings. Just nasty posts that are gleeful about generational changes.

Britain’s in an economic downturn. I’m sorry you’re not getting pictures of tiaras and $20,000 gowns anymore. Can I interest you in hot pink in a rainforest?

God, she’s such a clown.

I don't get it. What is wrong with her dress? I think it is pretty.

It’s hideous. Dated and makes her look extremely broad shouldered. But I think PP meant it was inappropriate for the setting, especially in comparison to what William was wearing.

There is no girlfriend. The pp is spreading lies and fake news. It’s sort of pathetic actually that someone could be so hateful and obsessed,

I’m not PP, but there very well could be a girlfriend. Just as we don’t know if there is one, we don’t know there’s not. Regardless of whether you’re a future king or a regular Joe Schmoe, it’s not a good look for a married man to leave a club at night with a woman who is not his wife. He should be smarter than this.

+1

Or at least more respectful to his wife

Nah, he’s a proven cheater, but I’m wondering if that’s the girlfriend that’s referenced.

No. The girlfriend married to the guy with the stick (steps picture) is separate. You can look her up.

There is ZERO evidence - like none at all that she’s his or anyone else’s mistress. Stop lying.

He threatened the British newspapers and got all news of this to stop over there. That’s usually pretty good evidence. It’s not “lying,” it’s paying attention.

+1. PP needs to stop lying.

I think people are too harsh on the Cambridges but I just cannot believe anyone is delusional enough to think that William is a faithful husband. He has loads of childhood trauma, tons of male role models that have all cheated on their spouses, like two relatives who have stayed married to their original spouse, hes rich and famous, has been pictured leaving nightclubs at night with women that aren’t his wife, threatened to sue the tabloids over basically breathing his purported mistresses name, and has basically been confirmed having private dinners with that same woman.

All of this. Plus, the English CULTURE into which he was born - wealthy, titled, private elite schooling, politically conservative, etc. - readily accepts that powerful men will have mistresses. That's just how it is. I have friends who run in the Tory circles and all of them have other women. ALL OF THEM. They don't even bother to hide it and the wives all accept it. The media keeps mum because they want access.

Just look at the damn Prime Minister - he dumped his wife and knocked up his assistant 25 years his junior. He had two secret illegitimate children while married. No one batted an eye and the voters keep voting for such a man.

Infidelity is brewed into the culture of the UK peerage system.

Don't forget the Secretary of Health got caught having a steamy session with his 'consultant' mid-Covid while telling everyone to social distance. And the former Chancellor (2nd highest cabinet position after Boris) divorced his wife mid-Covid and is reportedly shacked up with a boyfriend.

They all have affairs. All of them.

Boris Johnson now has 8 children with 4 different women. In any other Western culture - particularly in the US - this would be "trashy" behavior. However, because he was born with a title and silver spoon in his mouth, this is just expected behavior from a powerful and wealthy man in his social class. These are the norms to which William has been exposed since he was a child.

Anyone believing that William is faithful is a dupe.

Further, this explains so fully why Harry left - he didn't want his kids or wife exposed to such a boorish and degraded elite culture.

Interesting
They have the ceremonial soldiers standing in order of height

Is that not discrimination? Obviously only one white person per height category is chosen.

I doubt he’s still with the girlfriend. My guess is he has someone new. I think they’re standing on stairs and not in height order.

His family line has a history of loyalty...just not to their wives. His great-great-grandfather kept Alice Keppel for two years. His grandfather Phillip was also with each of his chosen paramours for decades. His father? Self-explanatory.

I think the reason it feels like more of a betrayal was that all the previous marriages were basically arranged. Even the Queen didn’t know Philip all that well before they wed. Whereas Will and Kate were together for 10 years before they got married for love.

The Queen knew Phillip for 6 years before they got married and she was the one advocating to marry him. Her family wasn't that keen. William however was dragging his feet every step of the way, dropping Kate, and picking up others until he was turning 30 and his family said make up your mind.

Very interesting! Basically still the same as “the Ton” culture. I got hooked on historical romance books after watching Bridgerton.

I know that, but they were apart for most of those 6 years. However, it’s still surprising that he cheated, given their power imbalance. I wonder if Prince Albert would eventually have cheated too

So William is not capable of overcoming this pattern, but Harry is?

DP. He might not be but (1) role and status of heir/non-heir is very different. Just like it has been for Edward and Charles who have very different marriage experiences (2) Harry has already shown he is interested in doing something off the beaten path by marrying a biracial American. Whether that precedes a long-term rejection of familial patterns remains to be seen.

There's also a difference in marriages. One was head over heels for his wife from their first date - so much so his family asked him to slow down meanwhile they're living (literally) with their mistresses. The other one tolerated his girlfriend til and through marriage.
