I have a month left of maternity leave and want to watch a new series besides old SVU marathons. I've heard great things about Dexter and Breaking Bad. Which should I check out? Or something else? Perhaps a season of 24?
I haven't had premium cable in 10 years and haven't watched a new show since Lost so I know I'm very behind on pop culture TV. I'd prefer a serial show that's interesting from the get go, and has already completed so I won't have to commit to watching once leave is over. Any recommendations? |
| Mad Men |
| The Wire or Breaking Bad. Or if you want a really satisfying finale, avoid Dexter at all costs and watch Six Feet Under. |
| House of Cards |
I'm watching The Wire & House of Cards now on Netflix. Gave up cable last year and don't miss it at all. |
| Break Bad! |

OP here, thank you for these recs and the tip about Dexter ending badly. I trudged through the last couple of seasons of Lost even though I wasn't enjoying it anymore so I prefer not to be let down again.
Also, re Mad Men, someone told me it starts really slow...is that true and if so how long does it take to pick up? My attention span comes and goes these days so I really want something that will keep my interest from the beginning. |

| 24 is interesting from the get go. I loved lost and liked 24. The first season of 24 was the best. I think we watched maybe 3 of the seasons. |
| definitely breaking bad or house of cards |
| Justified! |
| Breaking Bad or Mad Men. MM does not start slow. In fact, the early seasons are the best. |
| I am doing West Wing myself. |
