Stalker in the College forum

I'm not sure how I feel about deleting this guy, but I'm bringing it to your attention so you can decide. There's a stalker on the College Forum who has now bumped up several threads containing 3-4 of my posts over the past year. He's trying to discredit my claim that my unhooked kid got into a USNWR top 5 with SATS OF 2100. I posted in response to his claim that the only SATs of 2100 at the top schools are unqualified minorities who got in because of affirmative section. My kid proves this isn't true.

To be honest, I don't care if you leave it up, because my own posts are all consistent, and true. But this creep is sort of scary and at this point he's dominating the top threads in the College Forum.

I'm sorry, but I'm having trouble following you. Can you link to a post or two from the stalker? Just out of curiosity, what is an "unhooked kid" and what is "USNWR"?

NP. I'll add that I'm dismayed by the ugly posters wrecking the college forum. Their posts go well beyond the not-surprising-but-still-stupid: "I'd rather be a Hoya than a Hokie and never a Hen" posters. The college forum can be filled with interesting, useful info and anecdotes (like OP's experience here).

I would guess it's someone you know. You gave out too much personal info, and a friend or neighbor that's jealous has been "trying to discredit you".

Yes, "unhooked" means no special hooks to get you into a college, such as URM status, being a legacy (one or both parents went to the college) or being an athletic recruit.

Poor Jeff. So much to learn.

In college admissions a kid has a "hook" if s/he's a recruited athlete, a URM (underrepresented minority), sometimes a legacy or whatever else that particular college may be looking for a that moment in time (an oboe player for the marching band, for example).

And while there's much to dislike about USNWR, their ranking of colleges and universities seems to be the most universally referenced.

That is the same post you reported, but that is your post. It quotes two other posts. I assume the second quoted post -- the one that starts "It's clear" is the from the stalker?

It looks like there are a couple of posters who have become familiar with the details of your child's situation. It is not just one. I am still confused about the nature of their irritation with you. It may be that they are just tired of hearing about your child. Or, it may be that they do not agree that your child is "unhooked" because of her EC (see how I've become an expert in just 15 minutes?).

This is another opportunity for me to be amazed about how seriously people take anonymous conversations.

As for the larger issue of the college forum being disrupted by ugly posters wrecking the forum, please report, report, report. I have no qualms about removing inappropriate posts.
