Who in the school knows which students are on the free lunch program?

The cafeteria workers? The front office staff? The children's teachers (specifically thinking about elementary age students here)?

Just curious who is privy to this info.

Thank you.

No one. It is completely confidential at the school.

About 90% of the children at the school where I teach are FARMS. So, we pretty much all know.

Admin knows.

Not true. I and any staff member can find that info in the database with a few keystrokes if I wanted to.

NSA knows.

Definitely guidance counselor and social worker, plus administration. Not sure about the cafeteria - I think it may show up if the child tries to buy dessert, but I'm not sure.

At our charter parents turned in the farm app to teachers. It's not like I remembered or dwelled on it though...

In FCPS, only the cafeteria manager and the principal have access to the list.

I am sure some of the office staff knows, but at our school, every kid, paying or free, "pays" for lunch by typing a 5 digit code into the register. So the other kids would have no way of knowing who actually pays and whose code gets them free lunch. It seems like a decent system.

Teacher generally finds out, but the info is kept confidential.

+1 Former counselor here- It's in the kids file on the database (it also differentiates between free and and reduced).

There are several local schools with this FARMs rate. Why so surprised? Broad Acres ES in MCPS has 94%.
