OK, warning. This is graphic and not pretty at all.
I have what started out as an ingrown hair on my labia. It's now a painful draining abcess that I've been to the emergency room over, and I've gotten a scrip for antibiotics. What I really want is for my mommy to tuck me in, pat my head, and tell me everything will be OK. Barring that, I ask you all: Has this ever happened to you? Did you heal? Are you OK? Is there anything I can do to speed the healing besides what I'm already doing (compresses, medication)? I am a bit wigged out. |
| Is it a Barthelen's (sp?) cyst...I had one - hurt like shit and I was on a beach vacation - the whole damn thing was swollen. I had to go back to the house every hour to sit in an epsom salt bath and massage. It "busted" overnight and was almost immediate relief. Of course, none of this helps you, but criminy I remember that like yesterday. |
Thank you for responding. It's not a Bartholin's cyst. It's definitely an ingrown gone monstrously wrong. Once it drained, did it pretty much clear up on its own? |

I get ingrown hairs in the bikini area every once in a while. Sometimes they get a little puss filled, like a pimple, and when they pop and drain, then they clear up pretty quickly.
Once it got way out of control (something similar to you) and I ended up at a Drs and with a script for antibiotics. Of course that had to happen only a few days after moving halfway across the country. |
| Are you sure the hair is out? I find those things continue to cause problems until the hair is gone. Can you try to remove it with very pointy surgical tweezers? (Maybe the doc already did this) |
I did. It is so beyond this point, though. Thank you for commiserating. I really do appreciate it. I'm going to go to bed and pretend it's a dream. |
| I had the same experience as 22:00 only it was a week before my wedding! Luckily the antibiotics kicked in so everything turned out okay. But it sure was painful while it was infected! |

I have had problems like this - serious, huge, painful pimple/cysts in my private area. Never reached the point of antibiotics though.
Just because it is on your labia, doesn't mean it's any worse than any other sore and antibiotic. Don't let the grossness and embarassment affect you. It is true that this area tends to swell up more easily, guess it's blood flow... Did they culture it to make sure it is not some kind of resistant super bug that's going around lately? Do you go to a public gym for example? |

I have had ingrown hairs on my labia (usually right on the very edge of where the hair begins) twice. Extremely painful. Extremely. And I have a very high pain tolerance.
But also - and this is also TMI - very satisfying once popped because the relief is so intense. Did not know they could progress to absesses, but you have my most complete sympathy. Consider yourself to be receiving virtual hugs, warm blankets and maternal comfort

| Just to offer you some commiseration, I had a severe reaction once to a change in laundry detergent that manifested itself by an intense itchy and painful rash on my labia. I know how gross and icky this feels. |
They did. I don't have the results, but am being treated accordingly just in case. I go to a public exercise room and play a contact sport. Lotsa opportuninties to catch something nasty despite my hygiene efforts. |
| Soak hourly in epsom salts! the salt helps to remove moisture...I dont know about massaging it, but the salt will help! |
| Also, try some Tylenol, or preferably ibuprofen if you can tolerate it, for the pain and the anti-inflammatory effect. Hope you feel better soon. |
| Oh god. i have an ingrown hair on my bikini line and just practically performed surgery on myself to get the hair out. Luckily I did, otherwise, who knows? So painful though. |

I recalled an article about a woman who dealt with mrsa in her private area:
http://www.cnn.com/2008/HEALTH/conditions/02/22/healthmag.MRSA/index.html I will hope for you that it is not MRSA. |
