Hilaria Baldwin - At it again

There's a difference between having compassion and pretending someone isn't lying. Asking someone to be accountable isn't lacking in compassion.

If Hilaria had presented herself all along as a work of fiction or even "based on a true story" then ok. But she sought attention from her audience, offered advice on how to be a better mom and wife, and offered perspective as a non-native. So asking for some truth is fair.

I never heard from her until now, I didn’t know who she was, she wasn’t remotely relevant on Spain.
Things that I want to point out:
1) I don’t think she knows about our culture at all. Mallorca is a tourist place, where there are touristy places where no one is a local. There are many British and Germans who retire there and don’t know any word in Spanish after living in Spain for many years, they don’t tend to integrate or blend with the local community. What she talks about Spain are all stereotypes, I don’t follow her on social media, but has she talked about “Los Reyes Magos”? (The Three Wise Men), they give presents on January 6th (they’re our version of Santa Claus). If she names her children Spanish names (well, weird composed names not common here) you’d think she celebrates Spanish traditions as “Reyes Magos”, or the twelve grapes at New Years’ Eve (you eat 12 grapes on each clock bell strike at midnight).
2) Her brother wrote to her in Spanish being both Americans? Come on! And the Spanish was off, with common mistakes.
3) She never speaks more than two sentences in Spanish. Her accent is good, but her grammar and vocabulary is not, that’s why I think she avoided to talk with the Spanish press.
4) What I find most offensive of it all it’s not that she pretended to be Spanish, but that she portrayed an stereotype of “Latin” that has nothing to do with us. When I look at the way she makes up, for example, I think of a Latin girl, not a Spaniard from Spain. And I read some interviews full of stereotypes that are not even from our country. “Cielito lindo”! And she tanned and dyed her hair to look from Spain? Come on! That’s so offensive! Tell Elsa Pataky that she’s not Spanish because she’s blonde... argh.
5) No one in Spain is called Hilaria. It’s absurd.
6) A Spaniard wouldn’t give up her last name, it’s a cultural thing for us. We marry and keep our last name and we have two last names. Take Elsa Pataky, for example, she didn’t lost her last names when she married Chris Hemsworth. She’s Elsa (name) Lafuente (first surname, from her father) Medianu (second surname, from her mother). We don’t tend to have middle names (I don’t, for example, as most of my friends), so that’s even weirder that Hilaria names her children even three.

Great informative post, but I'm distracted by the bolded--so is everyone's mouth just stuffed with grapes? Because you can't eat them that fast, lol.

I am no PR person, but here is my latest plan for her...

Dissapear for 6 months. Come back in an interview where you explain for ED treatment and you did intensive therapy. Admit you lied. Admit you have issues. Admit you are thankful for intensive therapy for helping you gain insights and learn coping skills. Share what you have learned. APOLOGIZE. Accept FULL responsibility for actions. Like I've said before make massive donations to help those truly in need-donate even dollar you made from the lies.

I do wonder if they have financial issues despite him being a movie STAH. 5 nannies, a boob job, nose job, face work, presumably organic foods, designer clothes, travel, fancy homes in posh locations and so forth aint cheap and the money goes fast. I assume he invested well and money is earning money, but I assume the kidos will go to private school and have college paid for.

Seen from the perspective of someone who knows Spanish culture closely and all its richness, it is very clear that she knows and lives by topics. And the topics about Spain refer to the south (gazpacho, flamenco, bulls ... they are typical of the south of Spain, not of the whole country). But it is what tourists know and want from Spain, and it is what she showed all the time. Even being strange because the culture of Mallorca goes far beyond that and has much more.

In summary: She was selling a concept of Spanish culture more typical of the south than the area in which she supposedly grew up. So either it is not as integrated as it pretends, or it knows what it is that Spain sells abroad and it limits itself to promoting that. Both options are equally disrespectful and show little desire to integrate.

Ps: Her english its fantastic!but you can see she is better faking (or imitating) an accent than speaking fluently and using complex sentences. In addition, it has expressions more typical of Latin American Spanish (tengo tres meses de embarazo, it is not something that is said here in Spain or by mistake anyway), and in general it has errors that someone bilingual would not have.

I haven't followed everything. Did she actually claim this anywhere? Like, is she actually quoted saying she grew up there? There's some plausible deniability if it was only included in articles, her CAA bio, etc.

Yes she did. It was a small interview that I can’t find now where she she lived in Mallorca until she was 19.

She did an interview with Cat and Nat - saying she moved from Spain at age 19 to go to NYU.

Could a person proudly claim to be a descendent from pilgrims without being eviscerated? All my DC’s school did during Thanksgiving was talk about how horrible and mean the pilgrims were and how they stole land from the native americans and how horrible that was. Well, that’s our horrible culture, that’s all we got. We’re awful awful humans.

I feel for her at this time. I agree what she did was sketchy/shady/wrong and she knew exactly what she was doing and is taking no ownership... blaming media, but never having tried to correct this mis information... but she must be having such extreme anxiety with all of this unraveling. So much embarrassment, anxiety over how her husband is reacting to her lies, her brand being upended, and is also taking care of five kids(granted with 5 nannies but still that’s a lot).

+1

Who can defend a vapid poseur like this Hilary Thomas person? Ridiculous. Can only imagine what kind of person her defenders pretend to be in their lives, and what they take part in to "accomplish" that. How much is too much? Probably nothing. Gross.

Not exactly a lie...assuming she “moved” from sunning herself on a chaise lounge while on vacation in Mallorca back home for college.

They have zero financial issues.

He's always making jokes about needing money, too. Truth in jest!

Well, the best way to avoid the pain of that humiliation is to not lie in the first place. What did she think would happen???
