It’s things like Thrive 2050 and the remnants of redlining. |
Einstein only has IB Science classes, not AP. So they are meeting the minimum for advanced students according to the program analysis |
Maybe, but I don’t think they could compete with a criteria based performing arts program in the same region. Are there enough students for both programs? I can see this program change being an excuse to reduce staffing allocations and force principals to make tough decisions about electives |
Yes, but they could retire the IB program and convert those classes to AP. And that is likely to happen -- Einstein's outcomes are not good for IB. MCPS is not going to pay for IB certification and the IB coordinator at any school -- most likely it will be 1/region and that's it. |
Thrive 2050 and the recent zoning changes pursued by the council are likely to create greater disparities. Look at where the increased densities are avoided. |
Maybe but the better players will want higher academics so they may not select it and just continue with private music groups. |
I have a ninth grader that wanted Einstein for arts (music and theatre) so this all feels like a bait and switch for kids that recently went though the DCC process. |
The DCC choice process is likely ending after this year, but your ninth grader will be able to continue on the same pathway. |
Einstein music and theater is still fantastic, and I don’t expect that will change if Northwood is given this performing arts stamp. |
DP. Honestly I bet many would be ok with that. IB is actively sought out by a relatively small number of families compared to the district as a whole. My kids aren't HS age yet but for the moment our home school is Einstein and the lack of AP classes has given me pause, because my oldest is more inclined towards STEM. I've otherwise heard positive feedback about Einstein, so I would welcome this change, especially if the choice process is going away. |
Last few years it’s gone down hill. Go to Wheaton or Blair for stem. Principal is not strong. |
In the new model, everyone will go to their home school (according to the new boundaries), except for the relatively few admitted to a regional program. There will not be the choice process we have currently in the DCC/NEC. |
Right. And even with the choice process, it's pretty hard to get into Blair if it's not your home school. Not sure about Wheaton. |
And in the new model, Wheaton and Kennedy are in region 3 while Blair, Einstein and Northwood are in region 1. |
That’s going to suck and families will bail. |
