Describe your dream master bath

Anonymous
We will be renovating our master bath this summer (finally!) and I'm looking for some design ideas. What would you put in your dream master bath? Should we get rid of bath/tub combo and go for big shower? We have two other tubs in the house. Subway tile/glass tile/travertine? Marble countertops?

Just existing would be awesome.

Bath/tub combo has to go. You need either large shower plus soaking tub or just large shower if there is just room for that.I dreamed about a walk-in shower (no glass or curtain, it is just sloped) but I read that they are cold, so no way. Large shower with steam. Multiple shower heads. Please do not do subway tile. It is so dated looking already. Look on houzz for the all white marble European style luxury baths.

One thing about a big shower, make sure there's room for a little bench or some other sort of spot to rest your elevated foot for shaving your legs. Our current rental only has a shower in the master bath, and shaving my legs there is driving me crazy. It's too small for a bench, so I end up trying to balance myself and I swear one of these days I'm going to topple over.

We converted a walk in closet to a large shower. What I love most about it is that my kids get in the shower with me the morning. I get all 3 of us bathed in about 15 min in the mornings.

It has a 2 shower heads, a rain head, a body spray, and a hand held. Each kids calls their head in the morning. There is a large travertine bench in there. When you done washing, the kids jump up on the bench and wait for everyone else to finish. It's plumbed for steam but we haven't put it in yet. Shower has a green glass feature wall, travertine on the other 2 walls and green marble floor.

Floor in the bathroom is heated and we have a towel warmer. Double sinks and separate toilet room. After the kids get out of the shower they love the warm floor and warm towels. I love that there is enough space for all of us to get dressed.

My dream master bath would be self-cleaning.

Other than the creepy showers with what I assume are kids past the age of 5... That sounds awesome

The OP said, "describe your dream master bath" and you're writing like you have the end-all, be-all dream. Multiple shower heads just look sad. And wasteful. How many gallons of water do you need coming at you to feel clean?

I love marble tile - even subway tile. A simple soaking tub (no speakers, no jets, nothing stupid). Built right, I actually wouldn't mind a combo shower/tub - one less thing to clean. One sink but counter space and custom lighting for makeup. Storage for towels and such. An amazing fan so it never gets humid. I'd rather have fewer elements better designed than a bunch of crap that's becoming expected. Congrats on the new master bath. We have one but it's about as masterful as the guest bath - not very.

We just bought a home that has a master bathroom much like this including double shower with steam There is also a soaking jacuzzi that has steps to get in it and the toilet has a bidet, sanitizer, etc.,.: we're not sure we're going to keep the toilet's special features but we are psyched that it has an extra room. We've never had a luxurious bathroom like this so we can hardly wait to see whether we like it as much as we think we will!

Just for reminiscing ..... In our current home, we renovated our (very small) bathroom to include a jacuzzi/tub with a separate handheld spray in addition to the rainhead shower spray (bath/tub combo). We had marble inlay for the backtile to hold shampoo, etc., and built in marble inlay for holding soap bars. We worked with a great contractor to design it. We had a sink with a basin (bowl sitting on top of marble) custom made table/counter to hold sink and a Toto toilet installed. The bathroom is VERY small and we wish we had put a little shelving in (currently towels are in baskets under sink and there is not much room for makeup, etc. Having said that, we love the features and get lots of compliments. The walls are very pale mint green with dark peach towels (not describing the color well but it works). There are plantation shutters on the window. Even though we've sold the house and are moving to different space, we'll miss the bathroom! It was the best custom space we could create on a careful budget without expanding the 1940-size bathroom (the project came in under 10K, soup to nuts including new floor, painting, all appliances, tiling, etc.).

Good luck

Lots of storage; no pedestals. Large shower with glass tile in seaglass color palette. Some facility for playing music and listening to the radio (even if it's just a little shelf with an outlet nearby). A way to hang up wet towels that doesn't involve slinging them over the top of the shower door.

Forgot to add rain shower head plus handheld shower spray/hose thing.

It doesn't have a gamey smell.

Electrical outlets for DH and my toothbrushes as well as my hair dryer and clarisonic. I'm constantly unplugging one thing to plug in another.
