Cheating or no?

Anonymous
I overheard my son and his friend talking, and this is the conversation that occurred:

"I honestly do so bad on the multiple choice part of all the tests in that class!"
"Yeah, so did I until I realized she [the teacher] gets most of the questions from the questions at the end of the chapter in the textbook. So then I just figure out the answers to those and I usually do pretty well."

Would this be considered cheating, or is it the teacher's adult for taking the questions out of the text book?

The questions are there to help the kid study. If every kid read the whole chapter and answered the questions, all would do well-and learn the material which is the purpose of the questions.

not cheating. definitely the teacher's fault for using questions directly out of the book.

So the teacher is using the review questions to make up the test questions? The kids are supposed to review those, so it can't be considered cheating.

Intelligent kid. Lazy teacher. Not cheating. He is using resources found in the text book to. He would learn more depth and breadth of knowledge if his teacher threw in some questions that could only be revealed from reading the chapter entirely. Probably the teacher has not read it and is using a teacher's guide from the same publisher.

Our public school system has really dumbed down our teachers to the point that they are not even coming up with their own material. Rather, they are just using th book!!! Fabulous.

Some of my teachers (not the good ones) were doing this 35 years ago.

That is 99% of education, figure out what the teacher wants.

the joke is on the kid -- the teacher got him to study.

Cheating - no. Efficient and effective - yes. Ideal for learning - no... but this is HS, so it's not like someone's life is going to be in danger if the kid doesn't understand the nuances. If he's getting the gist, then that's good enough. Good for him.

Right? The questions at the end of the chapter are review questions. If the kid is figuring out the answer to those questions, he's reviewing the material, which is the point of the questions.
