Had anyone had experience with Erie Insurance for home and auto?

Anonymous
I'm thinking of switching to them because their rates are good, but I've never heard of them before. Anyone want to share your opinion on them? I need to get away from Nationwide, who is pretty much raping me on auto insurance. Thanks!

Yes. We have used them for many years. Always excellent service. We have had a few claims and they have been fair and easy to work with. Highly recommend.

Yes, I have both. No problems. Cheaper than USAA that everyone loves. Erie is well known. We use them at work too.

OP here, awesome, thanks! lol, they are less than HALF the price of Nationwide, and even less than Geico.

I'm so nervous to change though, becuase I've always had great experiences with claims through Nationwide.

I looked into USAA, but I'm apparently not eligible

I have had Erie since I started driving 25 years ago.

They are fantastic. They are cheaper because you don't see commercials on TV twice every half hour.

Erie gets very high ratings from Consumer Reports but I would have to switch insurance agents (from who has my current HO policy).

Thanks all. Erie does seem to get really good feedback, but I'm bummed that their auto policies doesn't include roadside assistance.

If anyone is curious, these are the quotes I got so far:

Homeowners:

Nationwide = $1,545/year
Geico - $1,701/year
Liberty Mutual = $1,292/year
Erie = $1,541/year

For Auto:

Nationwide = $6,108/year
Geico - $2,712/year
Liberty Mutual = $2,477/year
Erie = $3,035/year

I think I will probably be going with Liberty Mutual

Good god, what kind of cars do you own and what coverage? You can add on road side pretty cheaply with AAA or something else, in fact a separate entity may provide better service.

We have erie for a million dollar+ house and 2 luxury sedans.

1.1k for home
1.1k for cars

We had USAA but switched all our policies to erie.

Remember that erie and usaa are one of the few companies that offer 100% replacement coverage and no hurricane deductible for home insurance. Make sure you ask about those two items because if the costs go over your policy erie and usaa will pay for the full price and in the event of a hurricane you pay the standard deductible.

I will never insure my home w/ state farm or any of these other companies with hurricane deductibles.

We have all of our policies under Erie and they are absolutely wonderful - they're fair when you have to make a claim and are fantastic when you want to reassess your policy.
